I just installed Spybot Search&Destroy v1.5.1.15 and now IE (6.0) won't launch.
I installed with the SDHelper option, but NOT the Tea Timer. I also ran "Immunize" after the updates.
I can see iexplorer.exe in the task manager, but it will not launch.
When opening Spybot, it would take literally 1 minute to launch.
When I uninstall Spybot, IE can open just fine.
I'm currently running WinXP SP2 with IE6.
Any ideas?
When opening Spybot, it would take literally 1 minute to launch.
That bug is fixed.
You can download here RC (Release Candidate) version 1.5.1.19: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=22299

Did you tried to disable SDHelper?
To disable SDHelper, go to Spybot-S&D>Tools>Resident and clear checkbox "Resident "SDHelper" (Internet Explorer bad download blocker) active." (before that, close Internet Explorer).

Do you know when v1.5.2 will be available? (rather than installing an RC version)

Thanks, that did it. I can launch IE now. Do we know what's causing this? Or am I doomed to disable SDHelper for good?

There seem to a similar incident in the following thread were hhm7163 (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=34686) reported a problem launching Internet Explorer 6 with "SDHelper" enabled:
SDHelper

That particular problem has not been directly addressed by "Team Spybot" yet.

Thanks. Disabling the SDHelper did the trick for me. Hopefully this problem will be addressed and fixed.
Do you also use the Google toolbar?
If so, which version? That can be found behind the Settings button on the toolbar, menu Help there, then Infos.

Thanks! Works much better now.
Application load time is w/in 10 seconds.
IE now opens, even with SDHelper enabled.
The one thing I did notice after the install+update, is that "Immunize" doesn't seem to work. It says "Protected = 0". In the main window, there are no progress bar. It works after restarting the app.

Hello,
You have to immunize your system new.
After the install it is a fresh version, which does not immunize your computer automatically.
Best regards

Right. After the install, I applied all available updates and launched the app and went thru the steps (1-7).
During the "Immunize" step (right after downloading all updates), I clicked the button, but it didn't do anything.
No progress bars...
Protected = 0
I closed and reopened the app, clicked "Immunize" and it worked.

I spoke to soon. IE won't launch if SDHelper is enabled. I even tried to update the Google Toolbar.
For now, I'll just leave SDHelper disabled.
I can confirm this.
Got the same problem on two different PCs (IE 6.0, WinXP) with every version of Spybot S&D higher than 1.4.
It's like a 50:50 chance that IE starts - or not.
Especially annoying if a popup window opens (which will cause the "parent" window to freeze as well)...
As soon as there is one of those hanging iexplore.exe's all other iexplore.exe-processes will stay active even after closing the browser windows and you've got to terminate them one by one by hand.
The hanging processes usually take about 14 MB RAM.
I hope that information helps somehow to fix the problem...i'd really like to use SDHelper, but that's just too annoying

Thanks for confirming that my sanity is still in checked
Am having the exact same problem with the exact same symptoms (as described by Sebioff). I believe it started with v1.4 and is still not corrected in v1.52. The only solution is to disable SDHelper, which is a valuable tool which I would much rather have running.

The questions asked earlier in this thread that neither you nor Sebioff (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=35158) appeared to answer were:

Am running Google Toolbar v4.0.1602.1060. Installed Google Toolbar v5.0 Beta several days ago and found bugs...got an error message every time I closed the browser. Uninstalled v5 an reinstalled 4.0.1602.1060.
Google Toolbar 4.0.1601.4978 over here.
I'm using Google Toolbar 4.0.1601.4978, still using Spybot-S&D 1.5.1.15 (SDHelper enabled) and I don't have any problems with IE.
Maybe there is a problem in immunization.
Nope, I tried de-immunizing without any effect.
The problem definitely is gone with SDHelper disabled and there with SDHelper enabled.

I had a very similer problem with IE 6.02 Where IE would wouldn't load every few tries with the SD Helper on, but when I upgraded to the latest version of IE 7.0 the problem went away
Definitely Google Toolbar related. Uninstalled the toolbar last night and the problem seems to have immediately disappeared!
