My browser has been hijacked. whenever i click on a search result it redirects me do a website called daytotals.com which then redirects me to several different sites.

I have run several scans with spybot search and destroy
but it does not pick up whatever is doing it, there are also several other thing that turn up in the spybot search result which i then remove, but they are found again in the next scan. i think i could potentially have smitfraud too but i am not sure, all i know for sure it that i have daytotals and it is very annoying.

"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

1) Don't run and post the Kaspersky scan until I request it now.

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) Follow the directions carefully, the tool will not work unless you do.
Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

(wait until you update HJT to post the HJT log)

4) Delete the out of date HJT and follow these instruction:
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Recap: Post the report from Fixwareout and a new HJT log using version 2.0.2, add any comments you think wil help.

everything happened as described up until after rebooting to the point where I could see the desktop background and nothing else, Avira Antivir popped up four boxes saying it had detected a virus or something called kddtt.exe and asked me what I wanted it to do, for each of the four boxes i just used the default "Access Deny" and then everything continued as planned. I am telling you this because I don't know if it interfered with what fixwareout was trying to do or not.

and I was wondering, since the fixwareout log lists the user i was on when i used it, does that mean I hae to do this procedure on the other users too?

It seems to be fixed. I tried opening the links of several google search results and daytotals did not redirect any of the links, I am not certain, but I am pretty sure it is fixed.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Since Fixwareout is a script, your antivirus program should not have caused any issues. You asked this:

and I was wondering, since the fixwareout log lists the user i was on when i used it, does that mean I hae to do this procedure on the other users too?You should be working in the admin account now, but it would be best that I look at a HJT log from each user account before we finish.
This junk comes off slower than it got on and we still have work to do.

I believe you will find your Java program needs one update.

2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log, tell me how the computer is running and how many user accounts we neeed to look at.
