View Full Version : Spybot will not remove Zlob.DNS.Changer.RTK
Hello, new to the forum. Here is my problem. Spybot 1.5.2 continually finds Zlob.DNS.Changer.RTK. I fix it, then it returns.
It redirects all my google searches done in IE 7.0 to different sites. It doesn't do this if I use Google from Netscape.
I have Win XP SP2. I ran Spybot in safe mode with the resident Teatimer unchecked. Then rebooted and produced the following HJT Log.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I did just load Spybot a few days ago. Before running it tonight I searched for updates and immunized.
Anyone...anyone....Bueller? :)

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
You need to read the directions, don't post the Kaspersky scan now until I request it. Read and follow the directions or the tools will not work. If you have any of these tools, delete them and download them new from the links I provide. You are hacked by Ukrainians, I suggest you stay offline except when troubleshooting until we get you clean.
Keep TeaTimer disabled, it may block changes we must make.
1) C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\HJT\hijackthis.exe <<< if you must run HJT from the Desktop, create a folder so backups and logs have a place to store, move the HJT.exe into that folder.
2) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.
Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm
3) Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.
Recap: Post the C:\rapport.txt from Smitfraudfix, the report from Fixwareout and a new HJT log.
Thanks
Thanks. I'll get started this evening when I get home.

Not a problem, take the time you need to work carefully.
Just for my own peace of mind.
How bad is this? Are they able to able to see keystrokes?
I know you may not be able to give me porecise answer, but this is the firstime anything like this has happened to me.

Chris, I can't be 100% sure, but I believe these infections are more about trying to get you to purchase fraudulant junk and to redirect you to where they wish.

http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?threatid=40280
removing the stuff is my forte' not knowing what it does, but I am aware they are looking for folks gullible enough to believe the popups directing them to rouge product are something that can help them. They want that $$$ and the user is getting nothing for it and will still have an infected computer. That is why we call it smitfraud.

Thanks for returning your information, Smitfraudfix found this:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» hosts
hosts file corrupted !
After we clean, the next report may have a very large hosts file and I do not need to see it. Please edit that hosts file (items starting with 127.0.0.1) out of the report before you post it.
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< tutorial if needed
Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Phil, did everything in your last instructions. Performed Google searches from Firefox, Netscape, & MSN. All worked perfectly with no re-directs. :bigthumb:
Here are the reports you requested.
Smitfraud Hopefully editted correctly. I only found 1 item starting with 127. Also, on siri page I couldn't find a tutorial about editting the reports. Anyway, here it is.

Sounds good, I need to see the HJT logs in normal mode. Before you post, see this:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
You Java program needs and update. Start > Control Panel > http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
to open Java Control Panel. Then under the Update tab Choose Update Now in the lower right corner...follow the prompts.
After you update, post a new HJT log running in Normal Mode.
Thanks

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. I would like to run a Kaspersky online scan to make sure nothing is hiding from us, if this works for you, follow these directions.
Make sure you have removed Smitfraudfix from your computer before you scan.
Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan.
Thanks
You got it. I'll do it later tonight so it can run as long as needed. I'll post the results tomorrow morning.
Thanks,Chris
