View Full Version : TCPIPAddress.dll error during upgrade

I just tried to upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 via the internal program updater. I did not remove the old version first because I read that it is okay to install the new one on top of the old one.

I was following the install prompts and soon encountered an error message that said:

"C:\Program Files\Spybot-Search & Destroy\Plugins\TCPIPAddress.dll
TCPIPAdress.dll
an error occurred while trying to replace the existing file:
Deletefile failed;code 5.
Access is denied.
Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation."

I clicked Retry several times, each time getting the same error message. Then I clicked Abort.

I was prompted to restart the computer to finish the install.

I rebooted and now Spybot 1.5.2.20 is on my computer. I don't think the installation is correct. Aside from whatever the above error message indicates went wrong, I cannot expand the 2 entries in Settings\File Sets. The option selection feature doesn't seem to work correctly. I cannot deselect "Usage tracks check only", for example.

I am afraid I have a corrupted installation. Should I remove 1.5.2.20 and try again?

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

This was a little bug in our latest update.
Please close your Spybot and retry the update.
Or you just ignore this error message and go on with the update.

You can also download the new version manually:
You will find links to several download locations on our website.
These mirrors are partners who provide places to host Spybot-S&D for us.
You can download from one of them, it's secure and they all contain the same data:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Or choose the direct installation file (http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd152.exe).

Best regards

I did not feel comfortable with the way things were going, so I uninstalled 1.5.2.20 and reinstalled 1.4.

I had a problem or two with uninstall, as there was no uninstaller in the program menu. Windows uninstaller in Add/Remove did not work either (it was listed there but did not remove 1.5.2.20). I finally used the uninstall executable file in the program directory.

Needless to say, my upgrade attempt did not go smoothly.

Thanks for the reply, Sandra!
