View Full Version : Upgrading problem

I have just tried to upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5.2 using the dowmloaded file. As usual. I disconnected from the internet and closed all running programmes before starting.
When I tried to install the upgrade over the old version, it tried to download more files. When I reconnected my router and tried again, it timed out. So I gave up as I do not like being connected with no firewall.
The installation says install with no running applications.
Should it be necessary to install connected to the internet with no firewall or virus scanner running ?
Why can't I install it disconnected ?
Help appreciated !

Robert29:

If you want to install while disconnected from the internet, make sure that uncheck "Download updates immediately" on the "Select Components" screen during the installation.

Hello,

During the installation Spybot tries to download the updates.
You can disable this function in the wizard itself.
Just untick the checkbox in front of "download updates during installation".
The updates can be downloaded later on.

For more information on updating please have a look at this link on our website:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/update.html
You can also download the updates manually:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Here is the direct download link (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe).
Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

Thanks. It's installed and working again now.

I'll have to do more reading when I do installations in the future !

Not sure why the option is there though - a warning to update after the installation was complete would be better.
