Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
This infection can be tricky to remove and often needs multiple tools. I need to investigate first, you had Smitfraudfix onboard, if it is still there, delete it and download the newest version from the link I provide.
Read and follow all directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)
2) http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log.

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.
3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

5) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
Restart, post a new HJT log and and tell me how the computer is running. Scan with Kaspersky but I do not need to see the scan results unless you have questions.

Smitfraudfix needs to be deleted, it does not update and must be downloaded new if ever needed.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\SmitfraudFix\ <<< delete that folder
This file should have been deleted when you cleaned the Temp folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\BITA27.tmp <<< make sure that file is deleted
Empty the Recycle Bin on the Desktop, restart the computer. The rest are infected System Restore files, follow these directions:
MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SYSTEM RESTORE
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot
Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
If the directions were followed, the next Kaspersky scan will be clean, I do not need to see a clean scan.

Guess I will post the details, You are not delete Smitfraudfix, it is still on your computer
and you need to delete the contents of this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\ <<< this one. You don't have other user acounts on this computer?
If you have to boot to safe mode and delete everything in that Temp folder

You might have to display hidden files and folders to view those?
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
I have tried to clear the BITA41 type files both in normal and safe mode. They can not be deleted in normal mode as the message says they are in use. They can be deleted in safe mode but reappear when windows is started normally.
There also seems to be a relationship between these files and the c:recycler folder. Any thoughts?

Yes, there is one other user but that temp folder is empty.
Also, despite deleteing the files in the temp folder in safe mode, the following reappear when I reboot in normal mode.
An apparently empty folder called WPDNSE
the file BITA41.temp

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\ <<< try to clean that stuff out of the Temp folder now. If it does not stay gone, let's look for a rootkit infection.
Please download F-Secure Blacklight:
ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/fsbl.exe
and save to your C:\ drive.
Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd
Copy/paste or type the following in the command window: C:\fsbl.exe /expert
Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box.
Accept the user agreement and click "Next".
Click "Scan".
After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit".
BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan).
The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet! Most if not all will be valid files.
I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present...like "wbemtest.exe" and "tcptest.exe.
Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Your Blacklight scan is clean, remove that program from your computer.
Glad I am to hear you had some success, I was running short of ideas:bigthumb: Could you take the time to post what you did to remove those files, I may help others and will certainly help me.

After your 8:15 AM post, I reviewed some of your previous suggestions and think this is what worked.
I booted to safe mode
I turned off system restore
rebooted to safe mode
removed the BITA files in the temp folder
rebooted in normal mode and turned system restore back on.

Thanks, I just want to make the point that nothing can get from System Restore onto your computer unless you do a System Restore. I am 99.99% positive turning SR off and on had nothing to do with removing those .tmp files.

At one point in safe mode, there were three folders in the temp folder in addition to the BITA files. I was able to delete two of the three folders and after that I think the BITA files were gone.
