Please help.
Following an attempt at downloading something I shouldn't have, my internet sessions have been interrupted by my anti virus product telling me of attempts to infiltrate the system. Personal attempts to remove the products have been unsuccessful. I have also taken the machine to a local computer shop, and they returned it to me "free of viruses". The problem was not resolved and recurred when next connected to the internet.
RUNDLL messages advising of missing modules are also appearing on startup following corrective action undertaken by anti virus products.

Kaspersky scan has been completed but would not fit on post.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you stay offline except when troubleshooting until you are clean, the junk may download more.

Are you familiar with this program and sure it is safe?
c:\program files\integard\integard.dll

1) Start by doing this from Kaspersky:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\ <<< delete the contents of the quarantine folder:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000041213443506

C:\Documents and Settings\Ian & Margaret\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\ <<< clean the infected Java Cache.http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/virusproblem/howtoclean/cleanjavacache.shtml

2) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

3) Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

http://vundofix.atribune.org/ <<< tutorial

Computer seems to be taking slightly longer to load than it did pre-problem, but it's hard to know as I didn't have to take much notice of it before.

RUNDLL messages are no longer appearing on start up.

I have been unable to update Java, message "C:\Documents & Settings\Ian & Margaret\Desktop\jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe is not a valid Win32 application" appears.

No unrequested internet sites have appeared during internet sessions.

Seems to be working very well thankyou.

Thanks for returing your log and the feedback, we have a couple of non-malware items that should be gone and are still there. Spyware programs like Windows Defender and especially TeaTimer can cause this, please make sure they are disabled and then do this for TeaTimer.

In some cases it's sometimes quite usefull to reset TeaTimer, once you've had it disabled to remove HijackThis entries :
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} -
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Java: Try to update from the Java console.
Start > Control Panel > http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/javaicon.jpg
Choose Updated Tab and then Update now. If that does not do it, you may have to check with support:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

This information should help you improve performance:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/slowcomputer.html

Let's run a Kaspersky scan to see if we missed anything, we will have a few System Restore files to clean yet, please use these settings.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT

G'day Phil,

Thanks for your guidance.

I thought I was following your instructions dilligently but, unfortunately, I forgot to disable Windows Defender and Tea Timer before undertaking your latest directions.

As I got to the end before I realised that I had missed the start (!), I have appended the Kaspersky results. I will redo the list and send a new scan result in a couple of hours. If the one below is of no use, please accept my apologies. The new one is on its way!

The Java cup is no longer showing in Control Panel (I don't know where it went) so I will try and work that out later. I think I may have removed it through misinterpreting instructions again.

Regards Ian

If you have not started the new scan with Kaspersky Online Scan yet, do this first:

1) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\ <<< delete the contents of the Recovery folder
http://ict.cas.psu.edu/training/howto/util/removespybot.htm#1

2) C:\VundoFix Backups\ <<< delete that folder

3) Empty the Recycle Bin on the Desktop and restart the computer

3) Follow these instructions to clean your System Restore files
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx

Your KOS will likely be clean now and I do not need to see a clean scan, just let me know how the computer is running now.

Thanks...Phil

Sorry Phil,
I had already started to rescan and the result is below. At the 99% complete mark Norton interrupted to advise of Vundo risk. I instructed Norton to repair and restarted my computer after Kaspersky had finished.

I will not go ahead with your last instructions until I hear from you.

No problem Ian, you antivirus program can see this stuff but can't do anything about it.

1) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\ <<< delete the contents of the Recovery folder
http://it.cas.psu.edu/training/howto/util/removespybot.htm

2) 2) C:\VundoFix Backups\ <<< delete that folder

3) Empty the Recycle Bin on the Desktop and restart the computer

3) Follow these instructions to clean your System Restore files
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx

Your KOS will likely be clean now and I do not need to see a clean scan, just let me know how the computer is running now.

Thanks...Phil

I have followed your instructions to the letter and am about to start the Kaspersky scan.

My computer seems to be working well at the moment. Start up was still a little slow (I think) but loading programs, to clear system restore, start up Internet Explorer, has been as quick as ever. Have not received any internet sites not requested for quite some time now.

Thank you Phil. I will let you know of the clear scan in a couple more hours when it finishes.

Thanks Phil,

The final Kaspersky scan showed nil in all areas, as you suspected it would.

I appreciate all your help and the advice you have referred me to.

I think you have left off a line from your last post:
"If you are reading this on a computer ............ Thank Phil & Skybot."

Thank you very much and I hope that I don't need to talk with you again! (No disrespect intended).
