seemy thread (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=24033); of interest, to experiment, have just tried this upgrade/installation on an XP computer and have succeeded;

my 98se computer too receives similar violation alerts to yours;

I am considering firing up another 98se computer to experiment with :present:

I have an idea it may be a bad batch update exe :fear:

it is interesting that so far we do not appear to be receiving feedback on these problems on this forum from sypybot themselves

Hi you two...

Yes, I get the same Application error after installing Spybot 1.5.2. All updates downloaded, but Spybot will not start. Not sure what to do about this problem on my OLD win98SE computer. 1.5.2 works just great on my new Win XP Pro computer.

Hello, my Win ME system does not like 1.5.2.20 either. I did a "look for updates" from V 1.4, and part of the "update" actually tried to load in 1.5.2.20, and it all appeared to go horribly wrong. The system became unstable, especially with TEA-TIMER loaded. I de-installed BOTH the 1.4 and the 1.52 (as CPANEL installed software showed both).

I then tried the 1.5.20 from the downloaded executable, but it gave lots of error windows, and hung the machine (had to hit reset).

I may have to leave this for a while, until this new release settles down, as I have both H/W and software firewalls, and a good AV package (plus winsonar, which gives good enough protection for now). I will wait for the next bug-fix release. Cheers, TD

I had no problem with the install. But with only 2 128Mb RAM (256Mb). But it seems 1.5.2 uses more system resouce than 1.4. I think I may have too many back ground applications to use 1.5.2. My video had crashed and 1.5.2 caused an error in Kernel32.dll.

SPYBOTSD caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff7289d.

Stack dump:

I don't think it is Spybot 1.5.2, but my system resources are thinner running 1.5.2 than with 1.4. I removed the main 1.5.2 applicaton and installed 1.4 over it. The install only replaced the missing application. I cannot recommend what I did. But it fixed my problem.

The teatimer graphics/dialog box now works correctly. (The newer 1.5.2.16 teatimer.)

Try this Zakka

Open Dr Watson,then open Spybot
There is no need to do any more with Dr Watson,and the benefit remains even after it is closed,at least until the next boot-up.
A more tedious work-round is to open Spybot in Safe Mode; immunize do the scan and there.
Update cannot be done in Safe Mode,of course,but can be accessed from the desktop on the programs menu

there are several threads about people having issues with the latest spybot with windows 98. another thread this is raised is located here:

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=24402

and here:

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=23936

there are some possible solutions there by a spybot team member, so idk if these links help any of you guys or not, but this way all the threads are combined.
I honestly do not have any more offers to fix this issue, I'm stumped as everyone else. I know of computers that run the newest version fine on win 2000 and xp, as for windows 98 i have not seen the latest update on that os, so i cant confirm. But i believe with as many people that posted about this, this is def. a real problem that i hope can be fixed for anyone that is having this issue.
The best way to fix your issue would be to go back to spybot version 1.4 if the possible solutions do not work. go to a site that offers older download versions of programs, or search the forums for the 1.4 installation file. i hope this helps a bit.

I went through all the gyrations mentioned in an attempt to get the new Spybot to work and continued to get the invalid page fault in module (<unknown> message. I finally found out that if I started Zone Alarm, then closed it, that the new SpyBot worked fine. (You could leave Zone Alarm open, but SpyBot says to close all other running apps). Every time you start W98SE and try to run SpyBot, SpyBot again gives you this page fault message until you start and close ZoneAlarm again.
Further examination revealed that the vsmon.exe (TrueVector Service) could be clicked to start it and that SpyBot would run OK. The vsmon.exe is in the Windows System directory in the ZoneLabs folder. Clicking the vsmon.exe file won’t start ZoneAlarm -- however when ZoneAlarm is started it will automatically open up the vsmon.exe file.
I mention this only so that, hopefully, some computer knowledgeable person with SpyBot will know, at least, what is causing the problem and, again, hopefully, fix it.
Since ZoneAlarm no longer supports W98SE and those of us using ZoneAlarm are using outdated and unsupported software I hope SpyBot can fix the problem.
It’s rather annoying to have to start and close ZoneAlarm to get the newest SpyBot software to work.

I also am experiencing this problem of TeaTimer causing Invalid Page Fault errors. I am running Windows 98, but today I was over at a friend's house and he said the exact same thing happens on his laptop, which I believe is running XP. So, the very first person I mention it to has the exact same problem, what are the chances of that? I conclude that this bug is much more common than I (and apparently also people here) originally thought.

At first I was only seeing the IPF error when I left the system alone, leading me to think it was power management related as suggested in another thread, but now it seems to be happening while I'm online actively surfing. I just switched from Firefox to Opera so maybe that had something to do with it. Or maybe it's an interaction with my Sygate personal firewall, I just don't know. Whatever it is, I sure wish I could fix it, because I really like having the extra protection TeaTimer provides.
