Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT Tuesday, February 12, 2008 7:48:52 AM

Many infected files in your NAV Quarantine:
C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\ <<< delete the contents
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000041213443506

System Restore is infected, until we clean it later, do not use System Restore

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

http://vundofix.atribune.org/ <<< tutorial

"Download VundoFix" to your Desktop

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will attempt run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click
the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\

(wait until you finish to post reports and logs)

3) Tutorial if needed:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the Vundofix.txt, combofix log and a new HJT log.

Thanks

As requested, I'm posting the HJT log and the Vundofix.txt in this message. The combofix log is in the second following message. But first, a couple things that might be worth noting. First, VundoFix did encounter a file it could not remove and rebooted my computer. However, upon reboot I received an error message stating that the temporary internet file containing VundoFix could not be found. If VundoFix was supposed to run on reboot, it didn't. It did produce a text report, but I'm not sure that VundoFix did everything it was supposed to do. Second, Norton AntiVirus and Combifix did not get along well on my computer. When Combifix was producing its log, Norton identified the process as a malicious script and attempted to shut the process down. Hopefully, the Combifix log is complete.

Thanks for returning your information. We have three situations:

1) See this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
Vundofix is showing this:
Java version is 1.4.2.3
Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed.
This is likely why you are infected. You need to download the newest version of Java and uninstall all old versions in Add Remove Programs.

2) Instructions were not followed, combofix instructions clearly state it needs to be run from the Desktop, you are running it from here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\V921CFCK\ComboFix[1].exe
Please delete combofix completely from that locations and dowload it again, this time installing it on the Desktop as instructed.

3) You have another infection that showed in this combofix scan:
((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( AWF ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
This is called Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.awf
http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?name=Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.awf&threatid=70517
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Trojan+AWF+&btnG=Search
This one is difficult to remove, I posted those links so you can read about it. If you wish to remove it, it will require that you follow directions, the instructions are complex. You have the option to reformat if you wish. Let me know if you wish to continue once you have followed the directions I have posted.

Thanks

Gailm

I've downloaded the newest version of Java; deleted Combofix and reinstalled and run from the desktop; and checked out the info on Downloader. I'd like to remove Downloader as it appears that it will continue to cause probems until its gone. In the meantime, here's the new Combofix log as requested:

Click here to download FindAWF.exe and save it to your Desktop.
http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/FindAWF.exe
Double-click on the FindAWF.exe file to run it.
It will open a command prompt and ask you to "Press any key to continue".
Press any key and the FindAWF tool will begin scanning your computer for the infected AWF files and the backups the trojan created.
It may take a few minutes to complete so be patient.
When it is complete, it will open a text file in notepad called AWF.txt which will automatically be saved to your Desktop or whatever location you ran the file from. Copy and paste the contents of the AWF.txt file in your next reply.

Thanks

Thanks, I think we got it all, finish like this:
Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool.

Select option #4 - Reset domain zones by typing 4 and press 'Enter'
You will receive a warning to reset domain zones
Press 1 then press Enter.
If you have manually included sites in the trusted zones, these will need to be re-inserted.

How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Computer seems to be working fine. Hope the log backs me up. Should I turn the Spybot tea timer back on?

Thanks for everything,
Gail

Thanks for the feedback, your HJT log looks good also. Wait a bit on TeaTimer until I give you the all clean. I know we have some infected System Restore files, let's see if Kaspersky finds anything else, use these settings:

Remove combofix, C:\qoobox\quarantine\ folder, Vundofix and the C:\Vundofix Backups\ folder before you scan.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks

Gailm

Yippee skippy, the scan came back clean. Thank you for all your help. I'm now going to turn the spybot tea timer back on and do all the stuff outlined in the post entitled "how did I get infected in the first place" (or something like that). Anyway, thanks again!
