Someone I know lives in an area where they are not able to subscribe to high speed internet services, so they have dial up. They use a Windows XP Media Edition operating system. How well would Spybot work on their computer?

I have dial up, and it updates fast even on a slower connection. so yes, it will work just fine. Patience is something you have when you have dial up, so I'm sure they wont notice.

I have dial-up and have no problems with Spybot, or anything else, because of it. There's no reason why Spybot shouldn't work perfectly well for your friend. It's a 9.27MB download, so it's best to use a download manager to get it so that, in the event of the connection being dropped for any reason, the download can be resumed from where it left off upon reconnection.
After updating Adobe Reader and QuickTime recently, 22.4MB and 22.3MB respectively, 9.27MB seems quite small. The 2 large downloads gave me a couple of good opportunities to catch up on my reading!

You could say that! Fortunately, updates of this size don't happen too often. I usually do them when I don't want to use the PC for anything else, these updates took about an hour and 20 minutes each, so it could be worse - I think...
