This is one annoying virus that I have attempted to remove myself with not much progress. Spybot detects the virus but it unable to remove it, despite the fact that it scans on start up and even in safe mode it still says that the file is already running.

Well, I loaded windows from the CD and went into MS-DoS mode and deleted everything that KasperSky scan detected as infected, including MsConfig.exe (surprised a computer can load without it). The computer appears to be running correctly, Spybot S&D detected nothing once I restarted it. But I'm curious to know if anything remains, plus I will probably need a new msconfig.exe

Hi

Computer can surely work without msconfig unless you have disabled some programs with it.

I will give you link to msconfig after we have make sure that you are clean.

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:

Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.
