hi vrv@ctlt,

i will try to help you.
two downloads to get and run;

1st will be sdfix:

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
* Choose your usual account.

* Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
* It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
* Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
---------------------------
after you run the above get combofix:
Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

as a precaution, before using combofix:
Close any open windows
Close/disable anti virus and any antimalware programs that might have real time protection running.Usually this can be done by clicking on the icons by the clock and selecting exit etc. This is done to prevent any possible interference while Combofix is running. After combofix is done you can restart them.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
----------------------------
post the sdfix log, the combofix log and a new hjt log please.

Hello Shelf Life...

Thank you for helping me.

Above are the logs you requested.

I would like to share some additional information with you:
When I came out of safe mode SpyBot had a couple of windows that opened regarding changing registry items - 1. Catagory: System Startup Global Entry
Change:Value Deleted

2. Catagory: System Startup Global Entry
Change: Value Deleted

On both of these I selected to remember this decision and to allow change.

Then after I installed ComboFix and it rebooted, while it was waiting to produce the log, SpyBot had the following six registry changes

1. Catagory: browser page, command processor, NT Startup, Desktop settings, Browser Helper object (this one came up twice),
Change: Value Deleted (on all)
I selected to remember this decision and to allow change.

I also had a windows security alert window:
Do you want to keep blocking this program - javaw
I selected - ask me later.

Also, I was sure if I should just keep posting (reply post) to the same post, sorry if not. Just let me know (I have read the sticky over and over and over), I'm just not sure.

hi,

ok good. looking better. lets get one additional download to use: vundofix:
in answer to your questions; yes reply back in this thread. those are warnings from spybot alerting you to the changes that the tools you used made. javaw is releated to your installed sun java, you can unblock it. i think it will just add a icon by your clock

download and run vundofix.exe:

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
* Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

YeeHaw (sorry I had to do that since I'm in Texas). It appears the system is clear. Thank you so much for your help Shelf Life. I am going to highly recommend to the owners to make a donation to Spybot. I hope you receive some of it. I realize you do this on a volunteer basis, hopefully there a little something for you.

I do have a question. I have always been told once a system acquires a virus it is always lurking around. I'm hoping the reason these forums and tools have been created is to do away with these statements. What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much,

VRV

I may have yeehaw'd to soon. I ran Spybot. There were 3 problems found. I wanted to be able to provide a log if I couldn't fix them so I switched to advanced mode before I fixed the problems, and couldn't figure out how to tell to fix them, so I am running another scan. I will try to fix them first in normal mode then in safe mode. If that doesn't work I will post the log.

Thanks

hi,

glad to help. in answer to your question, antivirus and anti-malware software do a good job of removing malware.
always keep them up to date.
you can always supplement them with a online scan also.
not quite done yet: look in add/remove programs panel and uninstall:

My Way Search Assistant
it is a questionable application.
-----------------------
reboot computer after the uninstall and rescan and post anew hjt log please.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ljjgeca - ljjgeca.dll (file missing)
---------------------------

you can remove combofix like this:
start>run>type in the window combofix /u click ok
note: there is a space after the x and before the /

you can delete the sdfix folder also

the why and how for making a new system restore point:

One of the features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is a good idea after malware is removed.Dont do this on a regular basis.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot

hi,

these;
C:\QooBox\Quarantined\
are in combofix's quarantine folder. they are safe in there. when you run combofix /u it should be deleted, if not you can manually delete it.

some of the others look like they have been removed with combofix. is that a recent scan with your AV?
in any case as long as they are in quarantine then they cant do any harm to your computer. you can delete them out of quarantine if you want.

Thank you so much for all of your help. I went ahead and deleted them out of the quarantine and emptied the recycle bin, performed a new AV scan, all clear. Again,Thank you, so much!!! :bighug:

Thank you for the prevention tips. I have shared them with the bosses and the other employees. May they will be more careful and not infect anymore systems. This situation sure made a lot of people realize how easy it is to get infected.

hi vrv@ctlt

its pretty easy to pick up malware. knowing how you might get it will decrease that chance. Thanks for the response, i get very little feed back about my web site.
happy safe surfing out there!
