slow computer

my computer is running slowly. Last night it also kept having things that wouldn't respond (even my computer). It also occasionally restarts itself but nearly eveytime i play a game it restarts it self or comes up with no input signal. I have run hijackthis and here are the results.

You dont appear to have installed an antivirus and firewall programs as was suggested here

this is because i have such a slow connection. If i tried to download one of those then it would take hours therefore stopping the phonelines. I only have a 56k modem connection is there any smaller ones. The only thing that i managed to install was microsoft antispyware.

An antivirus program atleast will be well worth the effort
Otherwise there is no sence in troubleshooting that pc

which of theantivirus programs is the smallest out of the ones that youve offered. My internet autiomatically trips out after 2 hours so can you please find one thta will be able to transfer at 3 kbps and not take 2 hours to load

steven: AVG Free Edition from Grisoft is about 16MB for the main download as I recall. If you can sustain that 3kbps download speed, you should be able to move about 10MB/hr, so that should work?

well my computer is occasionally slow for no apparent reason. Also When I try and open a file that is downloaded or is a game file five minutes in the screen goes blank and no input signal comes up on the screen (this doesn't happen with any microsoft office files) However once i have restarted the computer once i can play the game for hours!

Sun Java V1.5.0_06 is Available: http://java.com/en/index.jsp
Afterwards Turn off it's auto-updater,(Its buggy) , in control panel java >
update tab uncheck its option to update automatically.
After you install the newer version its important to uninstall the old versions, via addremove programs.

Microsoft antispyware is called windows defender now, uninstall and go get the latest.

The symtoms you mention are not ringing a bell, i doubt they are malware related.
