Hi,

I have a problem with Spybot detecting a win32.tiny.abk virus which it successfully removes only to reappear next time I run spybot.

I'm using spybot 1.5.2.20 with all updates installed and full immunisation.

This one has me puzzled a little so I will share the information with you.

Your HJT log is not showing much except this:

Which is missing a file so it is harmless.

You might want to start in safe mode and run a scan first, be sure it is not you before you post.
If you post, please link me to the topic so I can see what is causing the issue.

Let's clean what I can see now.

Kaspersky Online Scan:

C:\Documents and Settings\Gary Starkins\My Documents\Don't Back Up\Nero-8.2.8.0_eng_trial.exe <<< delete that file
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <<< delete the contents of the TIF folder


We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Google Module - {E1290342-AAFF-4f7c-9F45-D665E4BF1A00} - ktask.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and the let's clean some infected System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you scan with Kaspersky, it should be clean if you followed the instructions. Please let me know about: Win32.tiny.abk

Thanks for the advice

I have followed you instructions and the Kaspersky scan has come back clean. However Spybot still finds the
win32.tiny.abk virus after every scan.

I have tried running spybot in 'safe mode' but it made no difference.

As suggested I have posted here;
