Firstimer w a virus
2008-02-23, 00:19
I am 25 and been using computers since I can remember and have never had a virus or spyware.I have virus/spyware on my pc now and am having tons of problems. I have read up and tried to do my homework on how to remove it and for the most part removed some of it. But I can't get rid of zlobdownloader and I can't do half of the fixes everyone recommends because I'm unable to get into safe mode on my pc. Followed instructions carefully but my pc locks up after clicking safe mode. Please help if possible..I'm going crazy not being able to use my pc for regular things I need it for.
Hi,
please start with posting an HijackThis log, we need to see whats going on on your PC.
Click here (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe) to download HijackThis.
Save HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
Double click on the HJTInstall.exe icon to start the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
After the final dialogue box it will launch HijackThis.
Click on the scan button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Save the log, and post me it in your next reply.
Regards,
Rosty.

Hi,
thanks for the log.
Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.
First:
Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second:
Open Spybot S&D
Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
If your firewall raises a question, say OK
Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
You can reenable it ones your system is clean.
Download and Install SDFix Do not run it yet!!!!
Download SDFix (http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe) and save it to your Desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)
Next open HijackThis, click do a scan only and place a check next to the following entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Close all other windows and browsers, except HijackThis, and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.
Run SDFix
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Hi Rosty,
I did everything you asked up to the run SDFix. When I double-click *RunThis.bat*, it comes up with a dos box saying that i need to be in safe mode to run it. No option for *Y*.
Everything else was done easily except for that last part.

That's my main problem, can't get into safe Mode.
Afting clicking on safe mode after hitting F8, acts like its starting to load and the screen scrolls down but then stops and the whole pc freezes.
The top of the screen has:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\acpi.sys
the bottom of the screen and what seems to be the part it stops/freezes on:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\Mup.sys
as in my first post, I have tried everything possible before even posting 1st time but couldn't get into safe mode as per the try first instructions. Also have tried by what friends have recommended and couldn't do it because of not being able to load in safe mode.
Thanks for all your help so far by the way. I'm glad you guys are here for people like me
Hi again,

That is all there is...
I wana make sure i'm doing this right.I double click on your link, I then run it, a dos box comes up that says something along the lines of:
'swreg is not recognized as an internal or external command, opeable program or batch file.
'swxcacls is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
'swreg is not recognized as an internal or external command, opeable program or batch file.
i then found(or think i found) the right .txt
document and copied all the contents of it and pasted it here. thats all there was is what's at top..

hi,
sorry for having to ask this but I did exactly as you said and I now have an export-run file on my pc, how do I post it for you to see? When I try to do anything with it, it asks me if I want to add the information from C:\export-run.reg to the registry....

Hi,
I've a question. Did you disabled your Firewall?
It is also important to keep your Java updated as there is the possibility that some malware uses out of date Java installs to infect pc's. Test if your version is the latest here. (http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp)
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4 (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) .
Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (13.9 MB).
Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Please post a new HijackThis log and let me know how things are running. Answer also to my question I asked

Hi,
I have never turned off my firewall. If you mean windows, I think its off because it needs to be for norton 360 to run. I'm not sure, has been a long time since it was first installed. But norton 360 firewall is on.
My pc seems to be running about the same as before infected I just don't understand why I can't go into safe mode. Am I able to check my bank account and credit card account online safely? Without worrying about someone getting my info?
here is the newest log:

I almost forgot to tell you. the link I clicked to check for the latest version on my pc for java said that I have the latest version of it.
Hi again,
norton 360 firewall is on.
Thanks for telling. Well done.
I just don't understand why I can't go into safe mode.
Are you using Nero/InCD, ? There is a problem with a version of InCD that stops booting into Safe Mode. (InCD is a packet-writing software that allows files to be drag-and-dropped into a burnable folder.) If you have Nero (and InCD), go to the Nero website and download an update for InCD.
Also wireless/USB keyboard/mouse may prevent that. If you are using a wireless USB keyboard or mouse, check for updatesplease.
Am I able to check my bank account and credit card account online safely? Without worrying about someone getting my info?
Yes, you are. Don't worry.
the link I clicked to check for the latest version on my pc for java said that I have the latest version of it.
No you aren't using the latest version!! We're on version 6.4 and you're still using 6.3!!
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll
So please, install the latest version from Java and post a new HijackThis log. Let me know if you can boot in Safe Mode again.

Will post soon about safemode boot...
Firstimer w a virus
2008-03-03, 02:26
Hi,
Actually I just found out that I do use Nero. My brother in law(the one who put it on here) told me that it runs in the background when buring a dvd. I don't actually click and use it, but it is necassary for me to have. It has no (InCD) that you meantioned earlier though.
I have updated Java and my pc seems to be running great, but I still can't get into safe mode. Any idea's?
Once again, thank you for ALL your help and time and patience!!!
Do you have a USB keyboard?

my keyboard is plugged in with a colored round input.Only thing plugged in by usb is printer.
Hi again,
we, me and other helpers, are thinking that you're issue with the "safe boot" problem not malware related is.
Please take a look here: http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread725052.html
Let us know if that did the trick.
