Have had this on my computer for about 2 weeks, it does not go away. i have tried rebooting and running spybot at start-up. Microsoft, ewido, and ad-aware all indicate it is removed at the time of the scan, but it always shows back up again. Attached are logs for microsoft antispyware, ewido, ad-aware, hijack this, and spybot. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you, zxcvbn

SUCCESS!!!:) - Thank you very much for your help - i have run all programs, re-booted, then ran all programs again, and nothing is showing up now. McAfee VS does show the smitRem program as an "unwanted program." Should i remove this from my system now, or is it ok to leave it there to use in case WinHound shows up again?

You guys are the best - i really appreciate your help.

"McAfee VS does show the smitRem program"

Yes we know, Its complettly safe though, but i suggest deleting it, if its ever needed again we would need to see logs and re-download tools, they are updated frequently.

Do you use a hosts file ?
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Replace it about once monthly to keep it updated

Thank you - i did delete smitRem.

i do not have winzip, so i do not have a host file - is there a location or availability for a host file that does not require a zip file?

thank you,

Hi
Rightclick on this link choose save target as, save it to the desktop
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt
Then rename that file to simply hosts and put it in the etc folder
Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

If one already exists you will need to let this one replace it

Im Glad we could help
Since the problems are solved Im going to close the topic now, this keeps others with similar problems from posting there logs/question here, they should start a new topic.
If you should need to post another log for the same PC let Me or Tashi know.
