Hi,
I recently had a malware problem. http://myspace-593.vo.llnwd.net/00504/39/54/504584593_l.jpg
That's why I'm thinking it might have something to with my problem. I've been using ewido, microsoft antispyware, spybot s&d, mcafee and ad-ware to take out most of the stuff. There are no pop ups or hijacking of my homepage on IE or anything like that. The only problem is that when I shut down my computer, it restarts automatically about 4 or 5 times without even getting into the log in page. It only automatically restarts a couple of times when I shut it down and I turn it on again, it doesn't automatically restart when I just restart it.

i assume that the problem is due to tenebril spycatcher
i apparently has a false positive, it removes a valid windows file called userinit.exe
can you uninstall it ( if its a licensed version, be sure to save your license info into a safe place)
does the problem continue withput spycatcher ?

yes it still restarts automatically after i uninstalled spycatcher. also a little warning telling me that my firewall is turned off and i check and its on. i was just wondering it this is a bit strange....

can you do a scan with updated ewido in safe mode?
reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
then launch ewido:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.
reboot back to normal mode and post the ewido report here, also post a new hjt log

hi there,
my problem is getting worst. before it used to just restart at start up, but now it just starts up when ever it feels like it!! The scans don't pick up anything. Is there a possiblity there is something with my hard drive? because I was thinking of reformatting the darn thing :trample:. Thanks again. :)

formatting erases everything on the drive, so if you have important data there you should take the dirve off and back the important parts up to another disk
it could be a motherboard issue too, but i'm no hardware specialist ;)

well i believe i have fixed the problem. i found the solution on microsoft's solution center. Windows XP logon screen does not appear and the computer continuously restarts --> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310396/en-us

where would i find "userinit.exe" ?
ok this problem has gotten worst though, it keeps re-starting...then eventually it wouldn't start up at all. initially when i turned it on, it had 2 short beeps and 1 longish one. then when it wouldn't start up there would be no beeps.
