I am new at understanding computers and would love some expert advice! Here is my HJT log:

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
Looks like multiple infections including a hack by Ukrainians, do not expect fast or easy. Read the directions pinned to the top of the forum and posted above. You have not posted the required Kaspersky Online Scan. Do not run and post it now until I request it. We need to investigate first.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post only the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks

There are no instructions posted to run this Search function in:

I am using safe mode w/networking
I need to see the C:\rapport.txt

The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

What is important is that you read and then follow the directions. We have a long way to go.

Thanks

Well, that is part of it and I need to see it all. While in Notepad click on Edit then Select all. The complete contents of the .txt file will be highlited. Copy and paste the highlited information to this topic. Once you do that I will remove the partial report to cut down of the length of the topic.

Thanks

This is a lot of information, please take the time you need, proceed carefully and in the posted order. No one is rushing you, I will be here when you finish and post.
Thanks...Phil

Thanks for returning your information, Smitfraudfix found the infection and it also found this:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» hosts
hosts file corrupted !
After we clean, in the next C:\rapport.txt, there may be a very large hosts file
(items starting with 127.0.0.1) and I do not need to see it. Edit (remove) it from the C:\rapport.txt before you post it.

1) Clean:
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Optional:
To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

2) Thanks to LonnyBJones and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

(wait until you finish to post logs and reports)

3) Optional but suggested:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

4) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

5) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

6) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

7) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

We have a few issues, let me explain.

1) at Today, 17:05 you posted this C:\rapport.txt:
SmitFraudFix v2.299
Scan done at 12:42:32.78, Sat 03/01/2008
Fix run in normal mode

This is the same C:\rapport.txt you posted at:
Scan done at 12:42:32.78, Sat 03/01/2008
Fix run in normal mode

I need the C:\rapport.txt that you ran in Safe Mode when you cleaned the infection.

2) Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 4:59:05 PM, on 3/1/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574)
Boot mode: Safe mode with network support

The HJT log is in Safe Mode, I need all HJT logs in Normal Mode, and I need them to be run very last as they reflect the changes the other tools make.
That is why I asked for you to proceed in the posted order. As you can see Fixwareout was run at:
03/01/2008 17:04:36 and HJT at Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 4:59:05 PM, on 3/1/2008.

to recap, I need the C:\rapport.txt run when you cleaned (make sure you remove that big hosts files if it is there before you post it) and I need a new HJT log run in normal mode after everything else has been done.

We will work from that point.

Thanks...Phil

The instructions I posted were:

4) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

You must follow the directions I post.

1) With TeaTimer disabled as instructed.

2) Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Make sure to turn your proection back on when you finish.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: nutmp3 - C:\WINDOWS\

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Remove Fixwareout and Smitfraudfix completely from your computer.

5) Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75 <<< this CLSID is from this:
http://mirrors.castlecops.com/tk1941-no_name.html
That program is adware related and you do not want it on your computer. Post your uninstall list so I can see if you have that junk running somewhere like this:

Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP,
Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

You are posting the uninstall list and the Kaspersky Online Scan results. I would like some feedback now, how is the computer running?

Thanks...Phil

Thanks for returning your information.
Kaspersky: Saturday, March 01, 2008 8:53:53 PM

Instructions were to remove Smitfraudfix from your computer.

The balance of the Kaspersky scan is clean.

Your uninstall list.

I thought i removed smitfraudfix from my computer-i took it off desktop, when into add/remove -and not being a computer expert -please tell me how to find it to remove it?-s

Also, i did another HJT -and the same item that you wanted me to remove keeps getting in there- 020-WINLOGON NOTIFY: NUTMP3-C:/WINDOWS/APPPATCH/NUTMP3.DLL(FILE MISSING) and R3-URL SEARCH HOOK: (NO NAME) (4D25F926B9FE-4682)NO FILE

Thanks for your questions, follow the pathway to the folder in red, then delete the folder and contents:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\SmitfraudFix\ <<< this folder and contents

Post a new HJT log, let me have a fresh look. Understand, these items are not malware, just junk being held in the HJT log. Probably in TeaTimers memory and we might have to run a batch file to clean that memory.

Thanks...Phil

Here is a look at the Ukrainians:
http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.113.126
since we have learned to recognize the IP number, they started using others like the one that we removed from your computer:
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{97FCC34D-07E4-40B3-AA3E-042F61D53002}: NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222

To throw us off of their trail. This infection is generally not like a backdoor trojan or password stealer like here:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=25045

But it is still a breach of your security. A bunch of junk was bundled together in this infection. I strongly suggest you change all passwords and read this information to be sure:
How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063

Err on the side of caution is how I look at it. Here is a taste of what is going on in the old Soviet Union:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Business_Network

With Putin in power, not a lot that can be done just now short of (whoops, I can't say that)

I think I want to cry right now! I will get my sister to use her computer to change my passwords on my emails, banking and ebay. I am just afraid of purchases I made over the last couple years online -that I don't even remember!

You see I have ad-aware, mcafee(its free thru my comcast subscription), Spybot and the ones you told me ATFand Kaspersky. Do I have what I need to help prevent this again? Do I really need ad-aware? What do YOU recommend me have?

You are right about the Russians!!!!

Can you tell me what this is:
O2 - BHO: WOT Helper - {C920E44A-7F78-4E64-BDD7-A57026E7FEB7} - C:\Program Files\WOT\WOT.dll
Not a log of information, here is the Google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=WOT.dll&btnG=Google+Search

CastleCops, who maintains many of our databases would like information about that wot.dll if you are so inclined to help out.

How is the computer running, any malware issues?

Thanks
