Hello

Recently I've been having some problems caused by the problematic Virtumonde Pest. I figured S&D or Norton would save the day but unfortunately that's not the case. Any help with this at all would be heavily appreciated. Here are my HJT and Kasperksy logs from today:

I am not seeing Vundo in HJT or Kaspersky, what make you think this is Vundo?

You have posted an out of date HJT log and while running in safe mode. If you still need help, update HJT and post a new HJT log running in normal mode and I will take a look.

Delete this junk from your computer;
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\081C0000.VBN ------> Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.ebl

C:\Documents and Settings\Angela\My Illustrator\Adobe Illustrator CS3 Premium\Setup.exe ------> Trojan.Win32.Zapchast.cx

You also must have missed this: The Waiting Room

If no response in 48 hours, I will close this topic.

"I am not seeing Vundo in HJT or Kaspersky, what make you think this is Vundo?"

After running Norton, an item came up with the Virtumonde name.

Both files were deleted as suggested in prev.post.

I just did a scan (in normal mode) with the current HJT. Here is the log:

Please read the directions carefully:

You have posted an out of date HJT log and while running in safe mode. If you still need help, update HJT and post a new HJT log running in normal mode and I will take a look.
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Thanks

Thanks for returning the correct HJT log, let's clean a little and see what happens.

1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

2) Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Make sure to turn your protection back on when you finish.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://192.168.1.1/start.htm
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I would like you to update your antivirus program and run a complete system scan. If anything is found, I need all the information, what it is, where it is, the name of the file, everything that is reported. Post that information along with any symptoms you are experiencing and any error messages you receive "word for word"

Thanks

I ran Norton and the only alert that popped up was this:

SYMANTEC TAMPER PROTECTION ALERT

Target: C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANT~1\DWHWIZRD.EXE
Event Info: Open Process
Action Taken: Blocked
Actor Process: C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe (PID 964)
Time: 2008-03-20 08:26

Other than that, nothing comes up.

They both look to be valid files, my guess would be Symantec is not playing nice with Windows Defender. If it continues to be an issue, I would take it up with Symantec Technical Support.
