Unable to connect to Internet.........

HI there

I was called in to help a friend try and sort their PC out as they were/are having problems connecting to the internet. I'm able to communicate with the router but am unable to reach any websites - I thought it may have something to do with Zlob file and smitfraud and so was led here.

Can anyone shed some light on this, or indeed give me any advice on how to proceed - I've run HJT and include the report below.

Sorry, I should have said spybot picked up the smitfraud and Zlob infections (also picked up another 2 - one in the registry but in Current Version/Ruins and not Current Version/run as I am familiar with.

Just remembered one of the other infections was Pipas.A (the other one was spybot just picking up on the antivirus.override which I unedrstand is not a problem)

Read the directions, do not run and post a Kaspersky scan now until I request it. HJT is running from an unsafe Temp folder, here are instructions for downloading correctly.

Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

E:\bootcd\wintools\autorun.exe <<< are you using a CD to boot this computer? If so, remove it when the computer is running.

Instructions start here:

1) Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to ieupdater and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (Microsoft IE Updater) and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

(wait until you finish to post the reports and logs)

3) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

4) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post a new HJT log and some feedback.

Unfortunately I still cannot access the internet as before - just returns a blank screen. Spybot does not pick up anything problematic.

We need to run a Kaspersky Online Scan, but first we need to get you online.

My first suggestion is to involve the Internet Service Provider, this malware, especially the Ukrainian hackers:

has changed setting to redirect to where they want you to go. Fixwareout did this:
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.
but that still may not have returned the settings to what they must be for the ISP. I can give you things to try, but they should be able to help you get right online.

I am interested in how you get online? If this is DSL or Cable, the first thing I suggest is that you power down any router, then any modem and then the computer. Power up the router (if you use one) the modem (look at the lights, the owner should know which ones should be on. Once the modem is powered up, then boot the computer and try Internet Explorer. Make sure the folks at the ISP know what we have done with the settings. As I said, I can give you things to try, but the folks at Technical Support deal with these issues all of the time and I do not.
