I am not seeing much in the HJT log, we can clean a little. Why do you think you have Smitfraud? We will run a scan for it if there is evidence. There is some junk in the KOS scan, let's do this. You may need to show hidden files?

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and let me know about any malware problems.

Thanks for looking at this. I have to go to work right now so I'll have to look at everything you've suggested a bit later. The reason I think/thought the problem was Smitfraud is because when I scanned with spybot, that's what kept coming up in the results, as well as Zlob. I kept getting (continuous, unrelenting) warning messages and pop ups to buy and download protection; I also got messages that looked like spybot telling me to download the same things, as well as wanting me to accept changes in the registry. Also, the first time I ran spybot and the results came up, I tried to fix it, but when it was almost done, it just disappeared. All of this occurred after I had searched for the phrase "entomological dysplasia"; the video I wanted to look at had been taken over by porn.

Hi. I've finished with the instructions and everything seems to be working. I do have another question for you related to adobe reader, if you can help me. I've posted at their forum and haven't received any help, nor have any of the other posters with the same problem; I've waited for weeks for a response. The problem: I can not remove or upgrade to the newest version of adobe reader. Whenever I attempt to download a .pdf file, the reader freezes after opening the window, and then freezes the site I was on. Sometimes the computer freezes, too, and I have to manually turn it off and reboot.

I retain the newest version of Adobe because I occaisionally have to open a .pdf file that is not available in the .html format, but I know little about troubleshooting issues. I wonder if the .pdf format is not about obsolete?
