View Full Version : Request assistance with nasty malware

I guess I posted my original request in the wrong forum. I read the "before you post" post. I have the latest version of Spybot. My PC is infected. I thought I got rid of some of the symptoms, but they are back again. When I start up my PC, some process creates shortcuts to a bad website and puts the links in my favorites as well. It attempts to make the bad website my home page by changing my windows registry. It changes my home page to
http://softwarereferal.com...... Not sure if I got that spelling correct. Could be one f or two f's in he refferal part. Then I get repeated windows pop-ups saying my pc is under attack and to download the recommended software immediately. I have figured out how to control this a bit so that I can at least work on the PC. But after a new start-up, it's all back again. Also, even when I get this stuff cleaned and sort of under control, if I use IE, especially with Google, when I click through links I often get redirected to the malware's websites. The redirect url changes from day to day and it passes my original google search words as search parameters. The page I end up on usually attempts to look like it a search results page with links to place relating to my original search. If I hit the back button, quite often I get redirected to another malware site.

If I could get some assistance in completely removing this nasty from my PC, I'd really appreciate it. For the record, I don't have requests for assistance on any other forums and I don't expect to be receiving help from anyone else. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -- Mike

Hello,

The link I posted here http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=172326&postcount=3 provided instructions on how to produce a HJT log for helpers to analyse.

Please see the stickied procedure for this forum: "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Then start a new topic providing the log/s requested and I will close this one as helpers look for zero response. :)

Cheers.
