Hello,

Start-up is slow - launch of IE and other programs takes a while - Lots of lockups too

I have scanned with Spybot - removed 1 tracking cookie

Here are is the log from HJT......I have the Kapersky log as well but it was too long to post......should I post it in a seperate post within this thread? I included the info. on the Kapersky scan to show what it found.

Please help me remove the bad stuff........Thanks

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

I am going to show you this junk from the Kaspersky scan, nothing shows in HJT, my guess is this is causing all of your issues.

You understand these came in as infected email and someone had to open the junk. Read about it here:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=JS_REDIR.AH

Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Delete > Delete files and cookies, the rest is up to you. Close IE.
To be sure, I want you to navigate to the TIF folder here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Gooderham.LAPTOP\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\
and delete the contents. A few old files may not delete, but you can see the names of the files above.

Empty your Recycle Bin on the Desktop and restart the computer. Run a new Kasperson Online scan and let me know if that took care of your problem.

Thanks

Hello.....I did everything as directed.

Ran another scan and it came up clean.

Still not 100% though......problems still occur intermittently

Slow page loads (sometimes loads in seperate blocks)
Slow page closing (scrolls slowy down screen)
Mouse function hangs (as though it's busy doing something else)

Also, I only have the windows firewall and virus protection. Is that enough? If I install something else, do I have to disable the windows protection to avoid conflicts?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the feedback, since HJT is showing nothing and KOS is clean, you may have issues other than malware? I'll get to your questions before we finish.

1) Let's do some investigating to see what we can find out.
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe) and save it to your Desktop.
Close all other windows before proceeding.
Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

2) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt

Thanks

Hello, here are the logs as requested.

Just FYI....after I ran the scans I tried to open IE to make this post. The window opened with just the title bars at the top and the body of the window blank (white) and then nothing else. No activity was showing on the hard drive light. I had to ctrl/alt/del to end the task. IE finally worked on the 3rd attempt.

I can't locate the "Extra Text".....it was there, now it's gone.

I ran DSS again a couple of times......it now only produces the "main text"

Don't concern yourself, nothing I see indicates a malware issues, even the MBAM scan is clean as you can see. I believe you have hardware issues and that is not something I can help with. I would like to look at a diagnostic report from here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/
It may show us something, you have to register (free) to save the scan, then post a link to the test results so I can see the report. Here is a tutorial if it helps:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress/howto1.asp

The DSS scan showed you need RAM but I don't believe that could cause the issues you are having. I am wondering if the computer is overheating, how long since you cleaned the dust out of the fans, etc.?

Thanks

You never answered my question, how long has it been since the dust has been cleaned out of the fans, etc?

You have a lot of minor issues and one major. Click on the links and follow the directions. I do not suggest you purchase anything and they will try to sell you stuff, nature of the business.

Check IE Restricted Sites zone <<< check this first.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/SecIEZone.asp
It is dangerous to have your setting like that. It may be you have a lot of minor issues adding up to poor performance. Complete all of the suggestions and and see how the computer is running. I know you can benefit from additional RAM, as much as you can afford. To give you a for instance, you have 256 MB, my Windows XP Dell has 1.25GB. Five times what you have.

Have a look at this information for ways to help your computer run better:
