Hi there

I opened a dodgy page by accident a few days ago and since then I've been plagued with a slow system and whatever it was broke my AV :-(

Anyway, I think I've pretty much self-cleaned my PC now - just hoping I didn't get my credit card details stolen or anything :)

I had winstall.exe and as the topic says, the IBM0003.EXE but I've manged to clean the registry myself and my PC is now whizzing along at a fast pace and I aren't having any IE crashes.

One problem I am having though is that for some reason , I can't install some programs as something is stopping folders being created of certain names.
I can't create a folder called "sys" which is needed to install Eve Online and so the installer crashes out

Could this be a spyware/malware problem? I've got a HiJackThis log that I will post here if it's of any help!

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

hi

that file is a keystroke logger

have you done this:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451

i strongly suggest going through the steps in that link

Download and Save Blacklight (http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml) to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

also

Please download ewido anti malware (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) it is a free version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
The program will now open to the main screen.
When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
Then click on Start Update.

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)

Once the updates are installed do the following:

reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

then launch ewido:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.

reboot back to normal mode, post the ewido report and the blacklight report
also post a new hjt log

hi

bad news
you have a running rootkit on your system

i'd think you should read the following link very carefully:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063

if you choose to attempt cleaning of the machine:

run blacklight again, scan, then click next. you should see a list of found items

highlight these
: C:\Documents and Settings\King Phil\ORDER_~1.BIN
C:\Documents and Settings\King Phil\ORDER_~1.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SYSBUS32.SYS

one at a time, choose rename
click next, etc
allow blacklight to reboot the computer

as the machine boots back from blacklight, reboot into safe mode:

reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

in safe mode click start> run > type cmd
and hit enter

into the cmd window type sc stop sysbus32 and hit enter

then type sc delete sysbus32

launch ewido and do a full scan, save report

reboot back to normal mode
post a fresh hjt log and the ewido report

It only found

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SYSBUS32.SYS

this time around.... Shall I proceed with the clean? :)

I can reinstall Windows without any issues - I'm a fairly adept user just a bit carefree when it comes to Spyware and Malware - but I'd prefer to just make it safe :)

hi

its your data, your pc.. if you have anything confidential there i recommend reinstalling ;)

if you prefer cleanin then rename sysbus, and delete the service like i posted above

On my other PC here - scan is running :) Thanks for all the wonderful help. Is there somewhere I can donate to help you guys here out?

Okay, but you think if it cleans without issue it's fairly okay?

I've not had anything broken into (ie email accounts etc) and there's nothing on there massively confidential - no credit cards and only a game account or two that I aren't too concerned about.

I guess I'm asking - What do you recommend ? :)

ok lets clean it

a word of warning; due to the stealthy nature of rootkits i cannot say your machine will be 100% clean as a result.. only 99,9% clean, there is always the danger of stealth backdoors when rootkits are found

Some bonus good news. This has also fixed a problem I had in creating certain folder names. Seems that because it was using exploits to hide itself, if I created a folder of a similar name it would immediately hide it and render it unusable. Works now though.

Yeah - my PSU blew up so I had to fit a new one. Working alright again.

I tried to run that online scanner - it did find an worm virus BUT it was in an gzipped SQL backup from my website - a more recent backup showed clean so I just deleted the older backup.

However, the scanner got to scanning D:\recycle\ and then got stuck scanning an .ISO file for 2 hours. Think it crashed.

I'll try scan again in a bit after emptying the recycle bin.

Here's the HJT log for the time being.

Hi.
Sorry, I'm afraid that the online scanner above crashes each time I try to run it. Not sure why - it will get stuck scanning a certain file (random) and refuse to continue.

Here's a HJT log if anyone wants to see one more :)

hi

lets forget about online scans for a while
i dont see a resident antivirus program there,

see this link:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict405.html)

download, install and update one of the free antiviruses in the link

the do a scan with it in safe mode

let me know the results
