I've done some exploring into my problems, and I believe I have the "Virtumode" item, possibly something to do with "Vundo".

I have two PCs at the moment, one tower (1) and one laptop (2).

Both, unfortunately, I believe to be infected with this "Virtumonde" thing.

#2 was just scanned with KOS, and I saved the report from it, and I've just run S&D on #1, which is where I'm posting from. The scan found a few things, among them the "Virtumode.dll" issue.

I already have a HJT log for #1, a KOS log for #2, and since #2 is my workhorse computer, I'll be aiming to fix that one first, so I'm posting from #1.

I'll post the HJT and KOS logs right after this one.

Also, since I'm running AVG, there were two files that kept popping up as viruses every so often while I've been trying to get through this issue.

Not sure if it's important, but one was "hctp[1]" and one was "ptch[2]" - AVG said they were "Virus found Lop", and both were in the Content.IE5 folder.

Is there any other information I need to include?

Okay, I forgot to mention that I run a Sidebar and RocketDock program, and they might have strange extensions in the log that aren't a part of the infection.

I'm going to post another KOS and HJT log now that I've disabled both.

Additionally, I use a VistaDrive to provide the look and feel of Vista on my XP-Pro laptop - would that contaminate the log results?

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

If you still want help, read those directions, post the logs by copy/pasting as you did in the second two. You have also posted an out of date HJT log, this is covered in the instruction.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

You have had Vundofix onboard, delete this file: C:\VundoFix Backups\
Delete Vundofix if you still have it.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

"Download VundoFix" to your Desktop

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will attempt run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click
the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\

Post the Vundofix.txt and a new HJT log <<< use this information to get that HJT log.

3) Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Thanks for returning your infomation, good job with complex instructions:bigthumb:

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open Vundofix by Doubleclicking on it, then point your mouse to the white box above the buttons and right click, then click on Add More Files. When the next window opens,
copy and paste the files into the boxes and click on Add File(s), then click on Close Window. Then click Remove Vundo (or fix Vundo)

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

5) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

Make sure the files in red are gone

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the Vundofix report, a new HJT log and some feedback from you.

The system feels smoother, but I still can't help but think something's left in it. TeaTimer went on, and caught something dealing with that BM1-thing, so maybe there's still some left? So far, though, nothing is out -of-the-ordinary, and no pop-ups or errors have occurred.

Can my #1 be purged the same way, or will it be more difficult?

The instructions I posted for you were:

(leave TT disabled until we finish)
Return to those instructions, disable TeaTimer and leave it disabled until we are finished.

When we finish with this topic, you may start a new topic for the other computer. I have no idea which volunteer will assist with that repair. I can tell you that no two infections appear to be the same.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bqrcmmwr.dll",s

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\bqrcmmwr.dll <<< delete that file if there

If that file gives you any trouble, use this method:

Start Hijackthis
Click on the Config button
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the button labeled Delete a file on reboot...
A new window will open asking you to select the file that you would like to delete on reboot. Navigate to the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bqrcmmwr.dll and click on it once, and then click on the Open button.
You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.

Restart and post a new HJT log.

Whenever I press the "Delete File on Restart" button, HijackThis suddenly closes, and no new window appears.

I disable TeaTimer (sorry, I thought I had before), and have no other program running.

Oh, scratch that, I managed to get rid of it with VundoFix.

Now there's a popup that says "error finding bqr...", titled "RUNDLL32.exe", when I reboot.

That is a clean HJT log, great job with complex instructions:bigthumb: I will try a slightly different technique.

1) Remove Vundofix from your computer, make sure to delete the C:\VundoFix Backups\ folder.

2) Empty the Recycle Bin on the Desktop

3) Clean infected System Restore files like this:
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Run a last KOS and it should be clean, post it only if you have questions.

I have just a few qualms left.

One, Firefox is still getting a random popup every-so-often, and IE tried to pop-up a full-window while I was going to use the KOS.

Two, AVG caught something called "mljgg.dll", which I moved to the VirusVault.

Three, HijackThis is saying this:

With the (file missing) it looks like AVG removed that bad file, which would be new to me, I am not aware AVG remove this junk. Perhaps they are updating to do so which would be great. I suggest you Open the AVG Virus Vault. Click on Action and Delete anything in there. Use HJT to remove those items from your HJT log.

The information you received from HJT must be something new Trend Micro (who owns the tool since they purchased it from the creator) is doing and I have no knowledge of that. You may find answers to that question here:

I use a popup blocker for normal popups (won't stop Vundo) but I do not have that infection. If you continue to have issues with popups, try a blocker. These are popups that occur when you are online and go to the wrong website. If you have popups occuring when you are not online, it is usually caused by adware and/or malware.

Also, I used AdBlockPlus (Firefox add-on), and FlashBlock (another add-on), but I'll look into another pop-up blocker.

Other than that, the system feels pretty normal, so, thank you very, very much with my laptop.

Would it be okay to continue this thread onto my home-computer? I'll post a HJT/KOS log in a few hours, unless something comes up.

1) Be sure TeaTimer is still disabled.

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A15C2B67-CA39-4186-BF60-E06D7A62E780} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljgg.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

That would normally remove the item, it has no file and is just a dead registry entry.

You have these restrictions set on your browser:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

I am not sure if they are blocking that area or not, the BHO is a browser plugin?
