I was reading tips on how to become more secure when on the Net.
I read about Hosts Files and that I should create a false identity so they have no where to go.
If I read correctly, it only lacked the "How to do this" because it most certainly sounded credible.
As much as I can make my machine secure, the happier I shall be.
I run win2k with SP4 and have both Firefox and IE as my browser. I have PopUpCop on IE which is brilliant, and Firefox's block popups is pathetic, sort of a steel bat vs a cotton wool ball.

So is there an area where this How to is available or could someone explain the How to? Please keep it simple though, I almost need to be hand held through the process.

Thankyou in advance.

See if this helps.

BarbM:

Incidentally, if you used Spybot's immunization facility and had the "Global (Hosts)" item checked under "Windows", you already added 8033 entries to your HOSTS file.

Thankyou for youe help.
I spent about 3 hours this morning disinfecting my comp, found 2 mongrels in it and took ages to bust their legs.

One was Errorguard and no, I don't know how that got in there as I have never used it. Not likely too either as my girlfriend bought it and her comp went into overdrive with problems.

Another one is a web page and I shall attempt to give it in a broken linked form.

www.
soft
ware
referral
dot
com

That should do it.

Hasn't that last one given me grief, and again I have no idea where that one came from either.

I have added these 2 to "blocked" spots in Firefox and also in PopUpCop if I use IE.
