Hello,

After every scan, I get this warning:

NewsUpdate

(SBI $2239AFB4) Programm-Verzeichnis
Laufwerk:\Programme\Creative\News\

IMO, this is a false positive.

The culprit wouldn't be the above-mentioned directory, rather an entry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I've deleted this entry myself, as Spybot only removes the directory...

Operating System: Windows XP, Prof., SP2
Browser and Version: Internet Explorer 7
Where did the false positive occur: During a scan
Scan result after fix: No threats found
Spybot message at start of scan: None
Teatimer: Not active

Greetings
Karl

Hello MartianBuddy,

thank your for reporting this issue.
This entry is currently not recognized as a false positive since Creative Labs NewsUpdate is targeted.
As it seems Creative still does not provide necessary information such as a valid license agreement or privacy policy on this software. A search for "Newsupate" on Creative Labs website still gives no answers.
This link (http://searchtasks.answersthatwork.com/tasklist.php?File=NewsUpdate)
leads to an external site also describing the Creative NewsUpdate.

Hi Yodama,

Thanks for your comment on that issue.

The thing is, if Spybot removes that directory it deletes others too.

=>\Programs\Creative\News\REMOTECENTER\Marquee

After that action, the "Remotecenter" will be disabled.

Why not considering removing the "NewsUpdate.exe" only under the mentioned Reg-Key?

Greetings
Karl

thank you for your additional info on this issue.
I think we will disable detection on the folder and keep the system start entries.
Changes will be effective with the upcoming update tomorrow.
