Hi folks,

I was wondering if I should remove these entries. If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it. Will give screen shot.

Thanks, Rilla927

Let Spybot fix these entries. Redirected Hosts means that some malware has put one entry or more into your hosts file. You won´t be able to reach those websites until these entries have been fixed. If you want to know more about the hosts please take a look here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts).

Buster, thanks for your great wisdom! By the sounds of those urls in the screen shot they didn't sound legit.

Sometime's when I would try to do update's, it would say "Badchecksum" and it wouldn't update. I did run Spybot in safemode and those entries are gone and now it will update normally with out saying "Badchecksum". Is that because the spyware was on there?

Thanks

Hello,

The bad checksum has a different reason.

Many users have reported that they are not able to download updates. The 'Search for updates' reveals updates, but they cannot be downloaded. Often a 'HTTP Error 403' or 'bad checksum' is displayed. This has a simple reason - millions of people trying to download from the same server, which can't handle such a burden. In combination with the growing size of the detection file this is becoming a serious problem. We are currently considering possibilities to improve the situation. This includes the search for additional servers and ways of more effective compression. At least one server will soon be added, others will follow hopefully.

In order to overcome the problem for now, if you try again, have a second look at the update-menu-bar after searching for new updates. Therefor choose the update site from the navigation bar on the left. Now you'll see the update-menu-bar. It has a pull-down item to select a mirror. Click the arrow beside it, and select a different location (try the ones locatest nearest to you first), where you'll most probably have better chances to download. For a better understanding we have placed a picture at this link on our website:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/update.html
In section 4 you'll see how to select a download location nearest to you.

If this sounds too difficult please try to download the updates manually:

Here is the direct download link:
http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe
Just download and run that file - it is self-installing.

The information about "bad checksum" is also available in our FAQ:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/20.html

For more information please do also have a look into our forum:

"Bad Checksum" problems are usually caused by overloaded download servers.

To change download servers and for a workaround for "Bad Checksum" errors please see:
http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=345&postcount=2

Note: The download server can be changed after the "Search for Updates" and before clicking "Download Updates". So if you find a server that works well, you can start by using that server in the future. Also note that if you want (not necessarily recommended) you can select a server and then right click on the button and "Set this server as the preferred download location". If you do that Spybot will select that sever rather than a random server for future updates.

Additional information:
When updating, why do I get an error message that the "update is forbidden" / "bad checksum!!!"?
