Hoping to get some help with a potential risk.

Spy Sweeper reports the file below as a Trojan (trojan.gen).

File:
c:\windows\system32\kill1211.exe

Additional information from Spy Sweeper:
http://research.spysweeper.com/searc...n%20Horse&rc=1

Can someone help me understand what this file really is and if there's a risk?

Hi Skipswift

Let's find out:

Please click this link-->Jotti (http://virusscan.jotti.org/)

Copy/paste the first file on the list into the white Upload a file box and click Submit/Send (depends on which one you are using Jotti or VirusTotal).

c:\windows\system32\kill1211.exe

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

Hi

I found this (http://www.castlecops.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=964199)

So I recommend that you rename that file.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/kws/kavwebscan.html). You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

o Scan Options:

+ Scan Archives
+ Scan Mail Bases

Click OK
Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Please do not use your computer while the scan is running. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Click the Save Report As... button (see red arrow below)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/Kas-SaveReport-1.gif
In the Save as... prompt, select Desktop
In the File name box, name the file KasScan-ddmmyy (or similar)
In the Save as type prompt, select Text file (see below)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/Kas-Savetxt.gif
Now click on the Save as Text button
Savethe file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note: This scanner will work with Internet Explorer Only! Keep ALL other programs closed during the scan

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

OK, I renamed kill1211.exe and ran Kaspersky online and and HJT. Reports are attached (they were too big to paste to the post).

Hi

That looks good :)

Still problems?

Skipswift

No problems, just wanted to make sure kill1211.exe wasn't a Trojan.

Is it safe? Should I name it back to kill1211.exe or leave it renamed?

Thanks. Really appreciate your help.

Hi

No, most likely it isn't a trojan.

Rename it back if you get some error messages which are related to it.

Otherwise you can leave it as is.

Other issues left? :)
