I am trying to help my neighbor clean her computer. Hopefully I've followed directions properly. I had to remove a bunch of lines form the Kapersky scan due to it's huge size. They were all nearly identical and I noted where I removed them. Complete scan can be provided on request.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy. You show evidence of at least three infections, where did you get that bundle? If you wish to try to clean them, I need information first, start like this.

I had to remove a bunch of lines form the Kapersky scan due to it's huge size.
That would be a problem if you removed infected items. HJT can not see everything and KOS shows us what it cannot. Let's see how it goes.

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

Search:
Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/processutil/processutil.htm

Post only the C:\rapport.txt

Thanks

Thanks for returning your information, we still have a ways to go.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) Open a new notepad window, Paste the list of files from the quote box below into the notepad window.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awttqqp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bpqyjjxw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\adklhuvn.dll

Save this as vundofix.vft and Save as type "all files".
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Drag vundofix.vft onto the listbox (white box) of VundoFix.
Click the "Fix Vundo" button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions
starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Sorry for the delayed response.
During the week it is much harder to me to respond in a timely fashion.
I really appreciate the help.

As to the latest steps:
I get to step 5 and "C:\WINDOWS\system32\awttqqp.dll" still exists.
It gives the "file is use by another process" message whenever I try to delete it.

What should I do?

If you completed the last instructions I posted, then do this:

Restart and post the Vundofix report, a new HJT log and your feedback.
Vundofix.txt will be on the C:\
Thanks

Sorry... I'm not quite sure I understand.
I didn't complete the last instructions because I can't successfully complete step 5.
Are you saying you'd like me to continue and do step 6 and then post all those logs? Or just stop now and post a new HJT?

Suppose I say this computer will not be clean of Vundo until the files in step five are removed from the computer.

I can not remove them for you, did you try booting into safe mode and removing them there? Here is a tool that might help.

How to use the Delete on Reboot tool
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html#delreb

I need the information I requested before I know how to proceed.

Thank you

Well... I had tried safe mode and that didn't work. I didn't do anything else for 2 reasons:
1) There are a number of tools out there to help remove locked files, I thought it might be better to go with a "recommended" one.
2) I thought that the fact that some process was still locking that file might be an important piece of information.

In any event, HJT removed it on reboot. Here are the logs:

Thanks for returning your information and good job:bigthumb: You understand that the lowlifes who cause this junk are constantly changing how it infects to keep us from removing it. I have helped folks remove it thousands of times and no two times are exactly the same. Just like the tool that removes one infection won't touch the next one, go figure. Here is a little information about this last infection (Vundo) Since there is a class action involving this one, you may want to view this information:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/030807-mystery-around-winfixer-slowly-unravels.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog
http://msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/search.aspx?q=winfixer+msn

See this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\ <<< Java is out of date and one way folks get the exploit that brings Vundo.

Remove Fixwareout, Smitfraudfix and Vundofix (includes the C:\Vundofix Backups\ folder and run a new Kaspersky Online Scan using these settings to see what is left. Expect some infections because we still need to clean infected System Restore files.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks...Phil
