View Full Version : Problem with search bar

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have run Spybot S&D and each time i do I end up with Pipas.A still being in my system. I assume it is the reason there is a search bar at the top of my IE window which says, "Remove Toolbar" (with a big red X to the left of these words). And, of course, when you click the remove toolbar, it does nothing.

Here is what Hijack this gives me:

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have to tell you that some nice folks in the Ukraine decided you needed hacked. This link is safe to open: http://www.whois.sc/85.255.116.40
This is being called Wareout and it needs to be removed first. It is important that you follow the directions carefully if you wish to be successful.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Post the two logs bolded above in this same thread and we will see what is left to remove, I will clean any aol left at that time also.

Thanks...pskelley

Hi Lee and thanks to tashi for her as always prompt responses:bigthumb:

If you have the text from the FixWareout, post it along with a new HJT log. We will start from there. Please include any malware problems of concern and any error messages you are receiving "word for word"

Thanks...Phil

Hi Phil - I definitely second the thanks to tashi :bigthumb:

I ran S&D, fixit, and hijack this right before I sent this email. S&D found pipas.a (again - does each time i run it) and supposedly fixed it.

Here is the fixit file:

OK Lee, let's hope we have not caused an issue leaving the Ukranian junk on the computer longer that it should have been. We will soon know. This is the problem item:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jbtti.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\jbtti.exe The hackers have learned how to morph a item, if it comes back as a similiar and new item, you need to kill it with HJT right away and reboot again to remove it. Let's see what happens.

1) ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) it is a trial version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)

Once the updates are installed do the following:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {73018282-F1DF-C50D-8530-A6F820F30AE8} - EXE32EXE.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jbtti.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\jbtti.exe <<< problem

O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} (cpbrkpie Control) - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/40...2/cpbrkpie.cab
(next three are the Wareout re-directs)
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9EACC823-95AE-4910-B4D4-4DD1610BD9FE}: NameServer = 85.255.116.40,85.255.112.115
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{ACB3929C-C73F-4FFC-A77E-487CAD28ADFE}: NameServer = 85.255.116.40,85.255.112.115
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D77D619D-B1BE-4F33-A5DF-410CAEC4EF54}: NameServer = 85.255.116.40,85.255.112.115

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\jbtti.exe >>> file

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

If you don't have a good cleaner, use this one with these instuctions:
Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Restart the computer and post the ewido scan results, a new HJT log and your comments. Hopefully you will tell me all signs of Wareout are gone!

Thanks...Phil

Hi again Phil,
I was not able to connect to the internet using my PC at home. I used the Mac at work to download the program you suggested. I am hoping my home machine will be able to read the jump drive I have the info now stored on! I will try to see if I can get that done tonight at home and then will post the files.

Even if i cannot get the system to respond, I had thought of installing a second HD, using it as just a boot drive, and using the present one as a slave. Would I need to get rid of the malware then since the slave drive would not be dealing with any of the main system software?

Thanks,
Lee

Lee, I am afraid that question is a little out of my area. I will see if any of the resident experts has an answer. If not, I will try to direct you to one.

Thanks...Phil:scratch:

Hi Guys

Why slave it , almost finished cleaning ?
no internet connection possible from home still ? what exactly happens ?
since that infectionschanged some settings you might have to go through your paticular connection services setup rutine.

But yes ofcource you could set up another hd then cleanup the slave afterwards
