View Full Version : The Aftereffects of the Divo Codec (CiD Pops & errors with Windows Media Player)

I installed the Divo Codec for my computer not knowing that it was really a virus.

Now my computer keeps opening pop up windows with the title CiD at the top and my Windows Media Player (version 11) won't play avi files anymore. I have tried removing WMP which basically downgraded back to version 9, but it still won't play avi files.

How do I get rid of the pop up windows and fix my media player?

Below is the Log files from HJT.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.

KOS is showing considerable infection also that I do not believe is LOP/C2Media related, you should clean it also.

Delete all files in red

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...

http://www.spywareedge.net/nolop/NoLop.exe
http://www.spywaretimes.com/Tools/Download/Anti-malwareTools/NoLop!/
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=get16

First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
Double click NoLop.exe to run it.
Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log

--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program. --

Hi - the NoLop program returns that there is no infected files.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. The first HJT log you posted was from thge correct version:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 11:21:24 PM, on 28/03/2008

The second HJT log you posted was from an obsolete version:
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 2:14:22 AM, on 29/03/2008

Please delete the old version from your computer and use the new version only.

Is this valid:
C:\Program Files\TEVION Multimedia\ A google does not return much.

1) See this: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=12880&postcount=2
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\ <<< Java is out of date and that is dangerous!!

2) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.

3) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

4) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Amok Eggs Four Web] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\part dead amok eggs\Fork balm.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NAMEVIEW] C:\DOCUME~1\Paul\APPLIC~1\DEBUGD~1\sendcool.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

7) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\part dead amok eggs\ <<< delete that folder and contents

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS~1\Paul\APPLICATION DATA~1\DEBUGD~1\ <<< delete that folder and contents

8) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Post a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running.

Thanks

Hi,

First, Tevion Multimedia is a TV tuner card and program. It is a German Brand sold through ALDI here in Australia.

I followed all of the instructions including updating Java but I can across a couple of irregularities.

1. In deleteing the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\part dead amok eggs\ an "Error Deleting File or Folder' message came up which said that 'Cannot delet Fork balm.exe: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.' The only things I had open were IE (to look at the instructions) and HJT. I later closed both and tried again but the same message came up, the folder with the Fork balm.exe file is still there at the moment.

2. I could not find the second folder you mentioned
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS~1\Paul\APPLICATION DATA~1\DEBUGD~1\.
There is no folders that have the ~1 after them.
If I go to C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Application Data\ then there is no subfolder with the name DEBUGD~1. The closest thing is 'Debug Drive Soap' which actually has a file Sendcool.exe in there. I haven't deleted this folder yet just in case it is the wrong one. Is this the folder you meant?

I am still getting the pop ups.

Anyway I regenerated a HJT log again which is attached below.

The HJT log is showing no malware, sometimes you have to boot to safe mode and remove stuff that is running, understand Windows does not know if the files are good or bad.

I am still getting the pop ups.
and you will until you remove the files causing them.

How to get to safe mode:
http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/safemode/

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\part dead amok eggs\<<< delete that folder and contents

C:\DOCUME~1\Paul\APPLIC~1\DEBUGD~1\sendcool.exe
Debug Drive Soap <<< delete that folder and contents

Ok, I have deleted the files in safe mode.

So far so good in that when I have logged in I have not had a pop up.

Is there something that can be done for the non-functioning Windows Media Player with avi files?

Attached is the latest HJT log file just to be sure.

Sounds good, make sure you deleted that junk on the F:\ drive and run a last Kaspersky Online Scan using these settings. Delete NOLOP from your computer before you scan if you have not done so.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan.

Is there something that can be done for the non-functioning Windows Media Player with avi files?Not my field, and if it was my computer I would uninstall it and reinstall. If you post more information, any error messages word for word, I will see what I can find out.

First check this: I am running WMP 11 > Open the console > click on Tools > Options > File Types Tab. Make sure they are all checked, or at least that (Windows video file (avi) <<< is checked.

Thanks

OK, all items done. I got rid of the junk on the F:\ drive earlier and I've now done another Kaspersky check and the results are posted below.

As for WMP I am still not having any luck. I reinstalled version 11 and it still won't play the avi files. The message that it comes up with is "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help." and it has two buttons, one "Close" and the other "Web Help". When I press the Web Help button, it takes me to the following web page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.5721.5145&id=C00D11B1&contextid=83&originalid=80040241

I think it is trying to tell me that something is wrong with my sound card even though everything still works. When I change the avi file extension to wmv the file plays.

I've checked the configuration for the file types in WMP and they are all checked. So I am still lost with this one.

The Kaspersky log is attached below.

I would like to say thank you very much for your help.

You have been very prompt and I am sure glad you know your stuff when it comes to viruses and the like.

For the WMP issue that still remains I will post it on one of the other forums you recommended.
