View Full Version : lich.exe

HI - I was given a link to this forum by a helper on this site, so here goes:

My laptop has recently been infected with something called "lich.exe", bearing an icon which looks like Dracula ! Upon starting my computer, the firewall (free latest version of ZoneAlarm) constantly asks for permission for this programme to access both the trusted zone and the internet, which I have denied. A full scale scan using up to date Norton Antivirus fails to spot the programme. I have run a standard search for the programme (which seems to call itself a "loader") and it was found in windows system 32. I have tried to remove it and it will not budge. A Google search on "lich.exe" revealed several other users of similar fora who have been infected since mid-February, with no solutions offered.

I have just downloaded Spybot and run a full scan and it has not detected lich.exe. But it has detected the following: Windows Security Centre AntiVirusDisableNotify, AntiVirusOverride and FirewallDisableNotify. These are modifications that another victim of this malware (or whatever it is) noted on another forum.

Can anyone help me get rid of this and does anyone know what it is ? I have no idea how I came by it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your reply, and sorry I double-posted this topic yesterday.

I have no idea what you mean by HijackThis. Can you tell me exactly what do you want me to do ? I am a complete novice at this sort of thing.

Thanks.

Hi Lonny -

I was being helped out by a Microsoft technical wizard using telephone support; he had already helped me remove the offending programme from the registry by the time I read your post. I acted on your instructions as well and the problem seems to have disappeared. Thank you very much for your help.

Best,

Frank
