Note: In notepad under Format, uncheck "Word Wrap" Produce all HJT logs like this, single spaced.
single-spaced - (of type or print) not having a blank space between lines.

Post a new HJT log. Your KOS is showing nothing, could you tell me what program says you have a "Virtumonde infection", and what information is that program providing you.

Spybot is showing this in the scan:

Virtumonde: [SBI $3BE84E58] Settings (Registry key, nothing done)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1757981266-1343024091-725345543-1003\Software\mwc

The issues that are attached to this, such as the popups, have stopped, but Virtumonde is still showing up on Spybot's searches.

Here's the corrected Hijack log:

Thanks for returning your information, understand that when Spybot S&D finds stuff it can not remove, it is usually because the program is not up to date and fully immunized. In your case you are still infected, before we address those issues, please make sure your version of Spybot is updated and immunized, it should show a total of 67,156 immunized items.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Tutorial if needed:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a problem: when I run Hijackthis in step 5 above, this line isn't showing in the boxes to check:

O24 - Desktop Component 0: Privacy Protection - file:///C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger\index.htm

That is not a problem, the earlier process got rid of it and I am doing a double check to be sure. Complete all of the instructions and we will see what is left to do.

Thanks...Phil

So far so good. I'll continue to monitor it as it goes over the next few days. Should I run spybot to see if it still shows up? Also, on one of the earlier posts you said there should be 67,156 immunizations, but mine only had 62,152. The program is updated and immunized but I'm just not matching that number.

Thanks, Pat

Hey Pat, thanks for returning your information and the feedback. The HJT log looks to be clean of malware:bigthumb: Before we remove combofix, see this information: I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.

Let's talk about Spybot a moment, open the Spybot S&D console, now click on Help at the top and then About, it should say:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.2.20 Latest detection update: 2008-04-02

Let me know about that and if you wish to install Recovery Console, follow the directions to do so. You will get a text file when the installation is complete, post that.

Thanks...Phil

I've got the Windows XP discs, if by that you mean what came with Windows XP when it was loaded on my computer. If the RC only does what Windows can do on its own, then I'll skip it.

I checked the Spybot help menu and mine matches what you have (the version number and date).

Let me know what else I need to do.

Thanks,
Pat

Sounds good Pat, remove combofix and the c:\qoobox\quarantine\ folder from your computer. If you want another check since Kaspersky was clean, give this a run:
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

If you don't believe the additional scan is necessary...safe surfing:bigthumb:
