MalwareAlarm (pop-up?)

Hi,

While surfing with FireFox (on a site I didn't expect to contain this type of thing) a small window opened (looked like a browser window) claiming a need to scan with MalwareAlarm. Clicking Cancel or X both resulted in the main browser going to scanner2.malware-scan.com.dont-go-here and "appearing" to do a scan. Trying to leave the site results in looping back to the "warning" window, and then the "scan" page, now claiming you *have* malware, etc...

I have no other symptoms (slowness, pop-ups...)

KS scan is clean (I'll post the log if you want it).

SB S&D in safe mode removed a couple dozen tracking cookies, nothing else found.

3 questions:

1- I tried to search here and the web but didn't find an answer as to if this is simply a pop-up scam to sell software (that is likely junk, or malware). Any information on this?

2- After looking at the HJT log, would you agree that I seem to be ok? I need a confirmation on this.

3- On the tracking cookies, they all said FireFox default, is there a good solution to this? I don't care about sites tracking my activity, but I am concerned about them cacheing a password or something. I know I can disable cookies in FireFox but that will cause many sites to fail. Also there are a lot of blocked sites in the Privacy Tab, under Exceptions. were these placed there by SB S&D? FireFox itself? I didn't...

My first web search must have had a typo (or I was tired ;) ) but it appears to me that this is a SWF ad redirect exploit.

What's the best way (if any) to prevent this, since they are showing up on many large, reputable web sites?

Download the HostsXpert 3.8 (http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip)- Hosts File Manager.

* Unzip HostsXpert 3.8 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert
* Click HostsXpert.exe to Run HostsXpert 3.8 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
* Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
* Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts file and then click OK.
* Click the X to exit the program.
* Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.
