Please Help! Command Service and Pop-up Problems

:scratch: About 2 days ago I started getting bombarded with pop-ups. I went through my usual routine of running Norton AV, Spybot, Adaware, etc. But for some reason Spybot cold not remove "Command Service". I've done some reading in this forum and it seems others have had the same problem. Here is the most recent hjt log:

You have a VX2 infection....

Download http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe by ShadowWar.

1. Save the file to your desktop

2. Double click l2mfix.exe

3. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts

4. Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop

5. Double click l2mfix.bat

6. Select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter

7. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

8. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hi

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

1. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat

2. Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter

3. Press any key to reboot your computer.

4. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.

5. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

HI

You have a lot of new malware running, which wasn't in your first hijackthis log, this could be because of the VX2 you had, which acts as a magnet for other malware...

The VX2 infection has been successfully removed, but before we remove anything with hijackthis, you need to put it in a permanent folder (so that it makes backups)

Please do this first - go to C: and create a new permanent folder (call it hijackthis) ...Then put (or download - choose "save" not "run") the hijackthis.exe file in it (You must unzip it if it's zipped)...... so you have C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe.....then run hijackthis by clicking this .exe file -that way you will have backups if you accidentally remove the wrong item ( running from a temporary folder it will not be able to create backups )

But before you do that... I see you have EWIDO ... EWIDO will remove a lot of the new malware, so please run it according to these instructions, and post the ewido log for me to see

1. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

2. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

3. You may need to manually update the definitions which you can get HERE (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)

4. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

Boot into safemode...and scan with Ewido

5. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

6. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, AOL pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

7. Once the ewido scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen called Save report.

Important - You need to click "Save report" and Save it to your desktop, or you wont have a log

Hi Steam,

Well, now I seem to be having problems with Ewido. I ran in safe mode and steped through the removals like you said. When the scan reached 100% and started "cleaning" the computer froze. I performed the scan two more times and both times ewido froze when cleaning. It seemed like it froze when trying to clean Surfside Kick. So I tried manually removing the SSK folder from My Computer, but got a message saying that Windows cold not remove that folder because SskBho.dll was in use by another program. I rebooted and tried again to no avail. Anyways, there were at least 40 infections picked up by ewido, but I couldn't generate a report because it never finished the process. Any thoughts on how to deal with this? Here's the hjt log. Thanks for you help.

1. First please go to ADD/REMOVE programs in the Control Panel and uninstall surfsidekick ... allow the computer to reboot when prompted to do so ...

2. You have the VX2 infection back .. that's where the popups are comeing from ....

Please open the l2mfix folder and run option #2 again & post the log for me

3. Among the new malware you attracted is at least one trojan that the Panda on-line scan will remove...

Please run both of these on-line scans and post the logs...

OK things seem to be much better now (knock on wood).

First, the Active Scan log is attached. Please note that while the scan was running my wife accidently closed the window so I lost some of the info in the log. I believe it removed a couple of viruses (not sure which ones).

When I used Housecall there were around 10-12 Grayware files that could not be cleaned or deleted. I could not find where to create a log for that scan.

I have attached the log from Ewido and also a fresh HJT log.

Note that I also ran Spybot and Adaware (before creating the HJT log attached) and both scans picked up several items but all were removed successfully (mostly registry keys and quarantined files from the housecall scan)

Hopefully I'm now in the clear. Let me know if you see anything else in the HJT log that is cause for concern. I appreciate your help. I'll post again if I have more problems. I've been on line for 10-15 minutes now with 0 pop-ups and 0 blocked viruses which is the first time in a week that I haven't been severely annoyed by what was affecting my computer.

Then in IE click "tools" > "internet options" and click the "delete files" button ...
