Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

It's a tough one to remove, looks like you got a lot of it, but you have other infections.

C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\ <<< clean the junk our of your NAV Quarantine folder.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000041213443506

1) SUPERAntiSpyware <<< good program but it will block changes we must make. Turn it off or if it is a trial consider uninstalling it. Uses a load of your resouces running.

2) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

3) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Tutorial if needed:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Thanks

I was still working on my PC after I posted and I followed some of the instructions on majorgeeks.com which included running superantispyware (now removed) spybot S&d, malwarebytes, combofix, and MGtools. It got rid of alot of stuff but my first post is now old data. I'm still in the process up on your post, but I wanted to know if you want a more current kaspersky scan (which still says i'm infected) and hijackthis log in the mean time.

What I would like you do do is to read the instructions I posted so you will see things like this:

Until a helper responds, the HJT log has not been analyzed. Please wait to be advised and don't run fixes until asked. ComboFix is not a general purpose cleaning tool, please do not use this tool without supervision. This is especially important if your Operating System is Windows Vista!!Since you are way beyond being able to follow the instructions, post exactly what I requested if you want my help. If you no longer need help, post to let me know so I can close the topic.

Thanks

Recovery Console was installed correctly, in the event you ever need it in the future.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 12:42, on 2008-04-16

ComboFix 08-04-15.5 - Rob 2008-04-16 12:44:02.3

To be sure, I need to see the HJT log after any other tool has been run. Post a new HJT log and I will see if there is anything else to remove.

Thanks

Thanks for returning your HJT log, proceed like this:

1) C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/2005/nov4.php#viewpoint
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

2) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\elawcqlw.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\facmhtwp.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\grwkjoli.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mvilbgiq.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\rqmxmamm.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\rvagnmcj.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fwlanbvs.ini

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

(wait until you are finished to post those logs)

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) You have a lot of dead links in HJT that appear to be the result of TeaTimers memory. Make sure TeaTimer is disabled and do this.
Download ResetTeaTimer.bat
http://downloads.subratam.org/ResetTeaTimer.bat
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Let's run MBAM to check for any leftovers, if you removed it, here are the instructions.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

Let me know how the computer is running.

didn't understand the "?dobe" part but did everything else.The ? is a wildcard, OIN/Purity Scan adware uses those to make the junk hard to locate. Appears it is gone from the HJT log.

Remove combofix and the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from your computer and run a new Kaspersky Online Scan using these settings:

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks

The computer seems to be running normally... there's no error alert from trying to load a garbage-name dll on startup and I don't see a popup upon opening Firefox or IE any more. But at the same time the Kapersky scan just returned another infected report. :(

Here's the new scan result:

C:\RECYCLER\ <<< delete the contents of the Recycle Bin on your Desktop.

Inside the C:\RECYCLER folder, there's this folder with a recycle bin icon S-1-5-21-145673334-3227583628-485420795-1008 that can't be deleted. Is this normal?
