Hello. I have this virus that keeps coming up. I've tried AVG and Spybot several times in addition to clearing all my temporary files. When I run Spybot, there are two red items my system is repeatedly unable to clear from WebHancer.
I run IE6.
Here's the HJT report, followed by the Kaspersky report. Any help at all would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
Webhanser: http://www.cexx.org/webhancer.htm
That information also provides a link to LSP-Fix. Somestimes removing the junk casues problems with your internet connection, Use that fix only if this occurs.
This is what it looks like in your HJT log so you will know when it is gone:
O10 - Hijacked Internet access by WebHancer
O10 - Hijacked Internet access by WebHancer
O10 - Hijacked Internet access by WebHancer
You have other infections that may be more serious, but we need to remove this junk first. Before we start, do you know what this is?
C:\Program Files\Bat\X_Bat.exe
First, see if you can uninstall Webhanser like this.
Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs uninstall Webhanser. Also uninstall Bat if you do not know what it is and it is there.
If you can not uninstall Webhancer from Add Remove programs, then try this tool:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Webhancer-Removal-Tool.shtml
You have been successful when those 010 lines are no longer in the HJT log, at that point post a new HJT log and we will continue the cleanup.
Thanks

I removed that Bat execute - I didn't know what it was.
I used the tool from Softpedia to get rid of Webhancer as it didn't show up in the Add/Remove programs.
FWIW, a Virtumonde showed up on the Spybot report this morning.
Thanks for your help, as I'm sure this process will teach me a lot about how to take care of this stuff!
Here's the new HJT logfile.

Thanks for returning your information. I can say with 100% certainty, but this one: C:\WINDOWS\winself.exe is probably this: http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X1793199930772507099-0/WINSELF.EXE.html
Out of concern for your safety, I believe you should have this information.
How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10451
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063
If you prefer to reformat, just let me know.
1) C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HJT.exe, call it cutnwrap.exe that will work, hackers have learned to hide their junk from HJT and after a restart we may see the infection.
2) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.
Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.
It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop
Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.
Tutorial if needed:

Thanks

Below are both the Combofix log & the HJT log.
re: reformatting. I'm not against it, but I know very little about how deep the problems I currently have are going. If, in your educated opinion, that would be the best way to go, I can certainly do that. I've committed a big computer-error in that I haven't backed up because my CDburner isn't working. So, I'd have to try to find a way around that. An external drive or something, just to save the family pictures and documents of most value to me.
Since the time I knew I had a virus that wasn't going away, I've been careful to stay away from my financial info web sites. If that info is still findable on my computer, at least I haven't helped by keying in user ids and passwords.
I use this machine for work, but mostly to dial in to a remote computer and work from there. Work-wise, I have very little sensitive information on here, and even that is not financially related.
Thanks.

I can not make decisions for you, that is why I provided the information I did. Did you read the description of trojan? You can see how new it is so not much is known about it. Mentioned is the fact it is associated with this malware group:
http://research.sunbelt-software.com/threatdisplay.aspx?name=Trojan.Pandex&threatid=117675
The filename is associated with the malware group TROJAN.PANDEX.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=TROJAN.PANDEX.&btnG=Google+Search

C:\WINDOWS\mgwwgmke <<< delete that file or folder
C:\WINDOWS\fsjgzcfw.dll <<< delete that file
C:\WINDOWS\gtejixij.dll <<< delete that file
(if any files give you trouble, use this tool and instructions)
How to use the Delete on Reboot tool

Of the files/folders you asked me to delete in step 4, I only had the mxctenmf folder & the mgwwgmke folder.
My computer has been quiet re: virus detections since mid-afternoon. I'll post if I see something else come up.
My newest log file follows.
Thank you. :)

Thanks for the feedback, the HJT log looks clean of malware, we still have more to do, this is the next step.
I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.
Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

How is the computer running now? Delete combofix and the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder and run a new Kaspersky Online Scan to make sure we missed nothing, please use these settings:
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Then post it here.
(there is no need to post a clean scan result)
I will post this information for you now so you can benefit from it.
I suggest you strongly consider updating to Internet Explorer 7 if just for the additional security it provides you:

It doesn't look like we're clean yet.
I will try again to upgrade to IE7. Shall I do it before I'm clean or wait until we have an all-clear?

You should be able to get IE7 via Windows Updates. Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Updates. If I remember correctly it has to be downloaded by itself, WU will tell you that.

I've done the things you asked.
Also, I have installed IE7. Last time I tried there were glitches. This time, it seems to work fine.
I haven't had anymore virus threats detected since mid-day Wednesday. I just did a Kaspersky scan that came back clean.
I am/will follow-up on the other sites you recommended for being safe online.
Thank you for all your help. :)
