Thank you for helping me in advance. I currently have Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition have always been updating my virus definitions and running regular scans. A week ago, my Auto-protect popped up and detected a few viruses and then froze. I had to do a manual shutdown and my computer has been terribly infected since then. Steps taken since:

1) Full scan using symantec, froze before completion. Reboot.
2) 2nd full scan, it caught numerous viruses but froze before completion. Reboot.
3) 3rd and 4th full scan, fully completed, saying no virus. (this was very strange, something may have infected my symantec)
4) My computer was still infected so I downloaded and ran spybot. Numerous things were spotted and I attempted to delete them (Win32.Small, Virtumonde, Virtumonde.dll)
5) Ran Kaspersky Online Scanner (log posted below)
6) Ran Spybot in safe mode, still found same viruses, deleted them and then rebooted normally (Upon startup a few system windows popped up saying certain system processes could not be found (unsure of the names exactly....dll, 3 windows like this.)
7) Downloaded ResetTeaTimer and ran it.
7) Ran HJT(log posted below). My autoprotect popped up and said it caught Trojan.Vundo.B while I am typing this post.

Please help, THANK YOU...(by the way, I disabled system restore thinking this would help but should not have done that)

"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do. Please review the directions again and be sure "word wrap" is turned off!

1) If you are running TeaTimer, disable it until we are finished:
We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

It is important that it is saved directly to your Desktop

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Thank you for your prompt response. I have read the instructions "Before you post" and understand that information. I only connect online to troubleshoot as you instructed. Steps taken:

1) Disabled TeaTimer in Spybot Advanced mode. Reboot.
2) Never used ComboFix before so I followed your link and downloaded ComboFix.exe to my desktop. I do have the Windows XP CD but did not install the "Recovery Console."
3) Ran ComboFix.exe successfully, computer rebooted and log was produced (below).
4) Still noticed upon reboot that the same RUNDLL windows popped up. Exact verbiage: "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\bsxpbeiw.dll" "The specified module could not be found." (2 of these popped up, different ...dll)
5) Ran HJT (log below).

Thank you again for helping, let me know what my next step is...

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

Search for this file and delete it: DLHelperEXE.exe

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix log, a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running.

No need to detail what you did, instead tell me of anything you could not do.

Hello Phil,

I have performed all steps you instructed and my computer seems to be running MUCH better now. It still seems somewhat slow but it could also be my imagination since my computer hasn't been "normal" for a few weeks.

Everything went well and I didn't run into any problems (both new ComboFix and HJT logs posted below). One thing I would like to note is when I searched for DLHelperEXE.exe, it did not find an exact match but it did find "DLHELPEREXE.EXE-19C12FB7.pf" within the C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch directory and I ended up deleting that file. There also was another one found in the ...\HiJackThis\backup directory, which I assumed was normal, so I left that file alone. Also, I noticed there is another file that appeared on my desktop while I was doing all of the above steps called "desktop.ini" and I am not sure where it came from.

Otherwise, I do not know what "O23 - Service: OpenCASE Media Agent - ExtendMedia Inc." is and was not aware it was running on my computer.
As for right now, I will upgrade my Java and continue to check to see if I run into any other problems. Thank you so much for your help, and I look forward to getting further instructions from you.

Hello Nathan, thanks for returning your information and the feedback.

DLHelperEXE.exe <<< as I said, I could find no good reason for this item, I would delete any instance you find. ATF-Cleaner should have cleaned the Prefetch (hackers hide stuff there because most folks don't know it exists) but check to be sure it is gone. Remember, purging Prefetch will cause a few slow boots until Windows repopulates with needed information.

delete that file and allow it to set in the Recycle Bin for a few days, then dump the bin.

OpenCASE Media Agent: humm, this is your computer? If I remember I could not find enough information to say it is malware. Unless you say remove it, I would have to advise you to Disable the Service and see if that caises any issues.
Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to OpenCASE Media Agent and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.
This way you can always enabled the service again if you find it was needed.
If/when you want the service off your computer, use these instructions.

Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type OpenCASE Media Agent and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

We missed one of these, the junk can only cause you problems, use HJT to remove it:

Thanks Phil,

I searched for DLHelperEXE.exe and deleted the only other instance that came up in the HiJackThis/backup directory. I moved desktop.ini to the recycle bin and will let it sit there, and I disabled OpenCASE Media Agent as well.

I installed the Recover Console as you instructed and have posted the "CF-RC.txt" log below.

It appears you had no trouble figuring it out. The backups are always made when HJT removes something in the event of an error, so items can also be restored if need be. What a tool! Here is a tutorial of others uses:

Remove combofix and the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder and run a new Kaspersky Online Scan using these settings, and expect a few infected items because we still have System Restore files to clean.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Sorry for the delayed response. I had to free up some time to run the Kaspersky scan since it takes a little longer. I deleted ComboFix and Qoobox\Quarantine folder and ran the Kaspersky scan.

One thing that kind of bothered me was that I still had 2 viruses and had 29 infected objects, when my initial kaspersky scan showed 18 infected objects a couple days ago. Although it does look like some of the infections are within my Symantec Quarantine. Otherwise, I'm not really sure what it means. I have posted the Kaspersky Scan Log below.

Thanks for returning your scan results. I am not 100% sure but from the time you posted the first KOS and this last one, your AV is showing it removed a trojan and System Restore shows many more infected files that the first scan. Since you were trying to turn it off, this may have caused that. Let's finish the cleanup like this.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\Quarantine\ <<< delete the contents of that quarantine folder

Empty the Recycle Bin on the Desktop and restart the computer

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I deleted the items from the symantec quarantine and then turned off system restore and turned it back on after rebooting each time. Everything seems to be running smoothly.

I have a few questions before you go. When you instructed me to "remove" ComboFix all I did was delete the icon off of the desktop, I did not uninstall it or anything else. Was I supposed to do anything else besides deleting the icon from my desktop? Also, on my C drive there are folders named ComboFix and Qoobox (I only deleted the Qoobox\Quarantine folder earlier), what should I do with these folders? Can they be deleted?

Otherwise, I think I have had all of my remaining questions answered, and I appreciate all of your assistance. You single-handedly brought my computer back from the dead... :)

Right, if you remember we installed combofix to the Desktop, that was not a shortcut. If you right click and choose delete, that will do it.

Also, on my C drive there are folders named ComboFix and Qoobox Delete those also. Since combofix does not update, there is no valid reason to keep it.
