hi

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Please download ewido anti malware (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) it is a free version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
The program will now open to the main screen.
When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
Then click on Start Update.

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)

Once the updates are installed do the following:

reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

then launch ewido:

Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.

reboot back to normal mode, post the ewido report and a log from a fresh hjt scan

I'm definately no expert on this stuff, but this line looked odd because if I remember correctly, I had an issue with an Adware popup that reminded me of Ad Aware.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Here's the latest log. Looks like it's having trouble fixing the 2 lines that start with 02 that you wanted me to delete. All browsers were closed, and tried it 3 different times.

hi

i suppose adware alert is interfereing with hijackthis

is yours a licensed version or is it a trial version?

if it is a trial just uninstall it, the fix the items
if it is licensed, be sure to save your license info, then uninstall it, fix and reinstall

if it fails again we can try a solution that was kindly developed by our most respected super expert Mosaic1 ;)

also
Please create a list of programs that can be removed using Add/Remove Programs

Thanks for all of your help with solving these adware/spyware issues. I don't see how ya'll figure this stuff out.

To remove ghost entries in your registry( like that net detective ), open regedit by going to start, run, and type in regedit. When regedit opens, you want to select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key. You need to expand this tree view by clicking on the + sign beside its name.

Once you have it expanded, find the key Software and expand it as you did before. Find and expand the Microsoft key, Find the key Windows and expand it. When you have the windows key expanded, look for the key CurrentVersion and expand that as well. Next you have to find the Uninstall key. (Ultimately you are trying to get to the Sub key level: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall).

When this key is expanded, you will see all of the applications listed under the add/remove programs menu. Select the application key corresponding to the application you would like to remove, also check key names you do not recognize by clicking them and displaying they values stored in each. Looking on the right hand pane in regedit of an open key, you can check to see if it corresponds to the application you are trying to remove and then you can remove these keys as well.

When you are all done removing these keys, close your registry and verify the results by opening add/remove applications. Your application should no longer be listed.

as for adware alert lets do it like this
boot to safe mode, delete the folder:C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert

reboot

attempt again the hjt fixes

when ready post a new log

do you have a clue where it may have come from ?
if its silently drive by installed, we'd need to know where that happened...

OK, got rid of Net Det. and the 02 line with the Adwarealert.exe in it.

Ran Spybot, Ad Aware SE, and Symantec antivirus. All came up clean.

The two 04 lines you wanted me to fix are still there.
If they are not affecting anything, do they need to be deleted?

Computer is running much better and WAY fast again:bigthumb:

To be honest, when the popup problem started, I was searching A LOT of anti spyware/adware sites. Very possible that I put safe surfing on the back burner and inadvertantly put Adwarealert on the computer and just don't remember.

Here is the new HJT log:

hi

id like you to create a new restore point usin system restore
delete all other system restore points

once that is done do the following:
copy the text below from the code box into an empty notepad window:

(Echo %DATE% %TIME%
If exist empty.hiv del empty.hiv
If not Exist "original bho key.txt" Echo Backing up original BHO KEY & regedit /a "original bho key.txt" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects"
IF exist "original bho key.txt" Echo Backup Created Successfully
Echo.....
Echo Creating HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\empty

reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\empty
echo.....
Echo Saving HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\empty
Reg Save HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\empty Empty.hiv
echo.....
Echo Deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\empty
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\empty /f
echo.....
Echo Replacing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects with empty hive
reg restore "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects" empty.hiv

)>logit.txt 2>&1

Start logit.txt

If exist empty.hiv del empty.hiv

save it as clean.bat
save as type all files

then doubleclick clean.bat
post the resulting txt file here
also post a new hjt log

NOTE: this will delete all BHO's we are going to use a reg merge to put the legit BHO's back later
