virus removal help

Hello all. I have somehow managed to get my computer infected with the Virtumonde trojan (that I know of--probably more too.) I have up-to-date McAfee Virus protection, but it was Spybot that alerted me to the issue. I followed the procedure prior to posting, and am copying my HJT log and Kaspersky log report below. Please help! I hate not being able to use my computer at all (it is still functioning, albeit much slower, but I don't want to risk having any of my personal data compromised by using the internet for anything other than to post here.) You are infected, I suggest you keep this computer offline except when troubleshooting, the junk may download more. If you have any tool I use, delete it and download it new from the link I provide. Read and follow the directions carefully, the tools will not work unless you do.
This can be a tough infection to remove so do not expect fast or easy.

Likely where your problem started, delete that junk:

2) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

3) Remove any old copies of combofix before you proceed.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Post the combofix log and a new HJT log.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your help! I disabled TeaTimer and restarted the computer. I then deleted the file that the virus come in with (serves me right for letting my brother borrow my computer--I knew he had to have downloaded something!) In order to download combofix, I had to uninstall McAfee because it kept closing out internet explorer as soon as it opened. (I will reinstall it as soon as this virus issue is cleared up.) I ran combofix and HJT.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Proceed carefully and in the numbered order. I would activate McAfee before going online, you can get infected quick without an AV running.

2) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Right click Start > Explore and navigate to these files/folders and delete them if there.

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Hello again Phil,

1. I reinstalled the entire McAfee suite--no problems with using IE now even with McAfee running.

2. I deleted viewpoint (thanks for the heads-up--I HATE how aol sneaks in programs!)

3. I made all the files and folders visible.

4. I downloaded ATF Cleaner.

5. I downloaded ResetTeaTimer and ran it.

6. I ran HijackThis and did a system scan only, checking only the boxes you listed. One catch--O3 - Toolbar: (no name)... was listed as O3 - Toolbar: McAfee... so I didn't check it. I checked all of the other boxes and clicked "fix checked."

7. I right-clicked on start and hit "explore", but I wasn't able to find the file at C:\WINDOWS\system32\dbfmocbs.dll.

8. I ran ATF-Cleaner.exe and clicked select all. After it was done, I closed it out.

9. Lastly, I ran HijackThis again, and here is the log:

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, we do have a little ways to go yet.

1) First thing I want to do is get HJT off the Desktop, delete this copy.
C:\Documents and Settings\Jessica\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe

2) Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Close that log, we probably will not need it, and it will close to the HJT folder if you do.

Hi Phil,

I apologize for the delay in replying. I had an emergency doctor's appointment and such and I didn't get to my computer at all.

I deleted HJT, downloaded Hijack This and ran a new scan.

I deleted all the Javas and downloaded and installed the updated Java. (Thanks for the info about Java and slow computers--it was very interesting and informative!)

I dug out the cds and installed recovery console.

This is where I had a bit of trouble...I'm not quite sure what you wanted me to do. I was able to get into recovery console, but I wasn't sure what to do once I got there. (Computers have the ability to make me feel like a complete moron!!!) At any rate, I ran Combofix again and I am attaching the new log. Here it is:

Thanks for the information but:

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO
If you were not using this method to install RC there was no reason to scan with combofix.

Remove (delete) combofix and the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder and run a new Kaspersky Online Scan using these settings, to be sure we missed nothing. How is the computer running?

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here. <<< no need to post a clean scan. I will post this information for you now so you can begin to benefit from it.

Hi again,

I'm sorry--I was somewhat confused by the instructions before!

I deleted combofix and the other file.

I ran the Kaspersky scan again as instructed (standard) and there is good and bad news.

The good news is we got most of the viruses...the bad news is that there is still one left. The computer is running much better now though.
