View Full Version : cannot immunize global ports completely
after updating the definations of the latest spybot, i could not immunize completely the last section which is the Global Hosts. i couldn't remember the name but i only can remember that it is at the last of the immunization list. about 400+ were not immunized. how do i correct this problem?

It would help a lot if you included what operating system you were using, what browser, what antivirus what firewall etc, however this problem can be because something other than SpybotSD is locking the host file. For instance if you are using a Zone Alarm firewall, check that "lock host file" in the firewall advanced settings is still unticked.
Did you by any chance change/install/upgrade any security software recently?
i see... i am currently using Windows 2000 Pro SP4 with Mcafee Virusscan Plus 2007 (which is already expired), using mozilla firefox becos my IE6 has a problem. thats all the information i can provide u.;)

Hello,
Please make sure that you are running the latest version of Spybot - Search & Destroy including the latest updates.
To see which version number and/or updates of Spybot - Search & Destroy you are using please run Spybot-S&D and choose "Help" --> "About" in the menu bar.
There you can see which version you have and which updates are installed.
It should be version 1.5.2 and the updates from the 2008/04/24.
Some users have reported that they use SpySweeper or SpywareBlaster and shutting them down solves the problem. ZoneAlarm might also block the global hosts. If you go to Firewall in ZoneAlarm on the left and then the main tab in the upper right then go down to the advance button and click on it you will see under General setting "Lock Hosts file".
Further please try the following:
Open Spybot > Immunize > under Windows uncheck Global (Hosts). Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Hosts file > and then click on the "Add Spybot S&D hosts list" button. Go back into Spybot > Immunize
The problem that not all global host entries have been immunized has also been discussed in our forum:
