View Full Version : Has SB S&D messed up IE6

I am not sure if this is related, but ever since I installed the latest version of Spybot S&D (1.5.2) and have run imunize, I seem to have a lot of problems firing up Internet Explorer 6.

I am pretty sure that the problem started very soon after installation, but cannot be sure if this is the problem.

What happens is that most of the time, after clicking on a shortcut to IE6, it starts to load (cursor showing busy), but then stops and does not start up at all. I have to retry it a second or more times before it finally opens. When it does, I can have a number of iexplore processes running.

Could the imunize have caused the problem, or could I have set up something incorrectly in the settings for the program?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

ps:

I have scanned my pc for malware using several other scanners and I have no viruses found by my antivirus package.

Both have come up clean.

Would you happen to have Google Toolbar?

I have been having a problem lately getting my SpyBot to run all the way thru to the end. If "freezes" or just stops working part way thru the scan and therefore I never get to the end of the scan so I can see what problems SpyBot has found on my computer. I have uninstalled my original SB software and downloaded the latest one but it still does the same thing. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what did you do to fix it?

Thanks for the reply Zenobia - yes I do have Google Toolbar installed. Is this a problem? It never used to be with the older version of Spybot S&D.

I have not had any problems with the Google Toolbar since I installed it over a year ago.

mrc112:

There appears to be a conflict between Spybot's latest SDHelper Browser Helper Object (BHO) (version 1.5.0.11) and Google's toolbar that prevents Internet Explorer 6 from launching properly (for example see this thread (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=23856)).

If you are using a Google toolbar there are three options overcome the problem:
Uninstall the Google toolbar as Spogg (http://forums.spybot.info/member.php?u=35429) did:
Internet Explorer often fails to open

--- or ---

Disable Spybot's Resident "SDHelper" as follows:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
Uncheck the following:
Resident "SDHelper" (Internet Explorer bad download blocker) active.

--- or ---

Upgrade to Internet Explorer 7:
Requires Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Vista.
