Can anybody help please...
I have an unwanted toolbar (in Chinese) that is associated with Internet Explorer and tries to take over any forms or other entries I make. I've read it might be called Softomate but no such reference exists in my Registry. It tries and insert Chinese characters in place of English type in any form and it has also re-assigned my keyboard so that the @ and " characters are intersposed. I've tried AVG and LAVASoft but neither finds the virus.

Download ComboFix from Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.

In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
It must be saved directly to your desktop.

1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
Click on this link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net

2. Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.

IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

3. Now double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

Thanks Little Eagle for looking into this for me. Here are the logs. I hope I've managed to disable all the security tasks that were running before Combofix was executed. I had them on when I ran the HJT scan (I　hope this was OK)....

Not seeing anything there, download SDFix (http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe) and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Save it to your desktop unzip it. Open the program and then click execute.

Download the OTMoveIt (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt2.exe).

Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.

Press cleanup & it will search for and delete/uninstall some tool you have used.

Reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account
which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because
you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click on Open Uninstall Manager
Click on Save
A notepad document will open with a list of your installed programs.

I started by removing the following:
Viewpoint Media Player
AdwareAlert
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

and
Google SketchUp 6

I also removed Google Pinjin IME (which had a Chinese ICon with it). and that seems to have done the trick (tool bar is now gone on re-boot). I think I'm now clean.!

I only run mcafee security centre because I use mcafee spamkiller (not anti-virus).

By the way I think AVG are still doing a free version 8.0 but it is not as extensive as the paid-for version

AVG seams to do this every year or so but then after a month or two they come back with the free version. :sad:

I think I'm now clean.!And you seem to have done it without me.:oops: Glad to here that it's gone.:)
