Ran AVG found loads!

Hi guys, i ran avg and found such a high amount of spyware, trojans and other files that i dont know if it was kidding me or not!

It didnt remove anything when i asked it to heal.

I have ran hijack this and saved a logfile, here it is for your opinion.

Remember, im a pc noob and have no idea what im doing!

1) Read the directions posted above and pinned to the top of the forum.

2) Provide the correct version of HJT:
Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

3) Provide the required KOS scan results:
Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here along with a HJT from v2.0.2.

Since I can not see any malware in this obsolete version of HJT, please post what symptoms you are having, and any error messages you receive "word for word".

Please post a new HJT log in normal mode. Post no logs in safe mode until I request them. I suggest great care at going online while in Safe mode with network support, you are unprotected at that time.

Ya, i had no choice. On normal start up my pc is now freezing up completely.

It's as if the startup isn't working i guess as only 1 or two icons are appearing in the startup area lower right of screen.

During the scanning processes above something has gone very wrong.

I can only do something (and post it here) in safe mode or safemode with networking, HELP!!

I hesitate to run tools for specific infections, when I have no idea what your problem is. It may not even be malware, you may have hardware problems. Without being able to collect any information, I do not see how I can help. Here are things you can try:

Ok David, thanks for the HJT log, but it does not help a lot, it is basically clean. Let's clean up what Kaspersky is showing then do a little cleaning with HJT and see what happens. Whatever you fixed to get this log may have been your problem.
Before we start, I run SpywareGuard myself and I can tell you it does the same job as TeaTimer. There is no good reason to run them both. We will disable TeaTimer during this process as well as SG. SpywareGuard will start with a reboot, and I suggest you leave TeaTimer disabled at that point.

3) SpywareGuard: Right click the SG in the System Tray to open the interface, then click File > Exit.

4) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.

5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

6) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Restart and post a new HJT log and tell me how the computer is running.

How do i find these files to delete them?

I went into mycomp, c drive, and so on to find the sdasetupexe file there and couldn't.

Also i turned my pc on this morning and it froze again, i restarted in safe mode, ran registry booster, it found 15 invalid entries (as opposed to the 120 it found yesterday) repaired them, then rebooted into normal mode, ran it again, found 5, repaired them.

So i'm hoping it's all sorted now as far as starting the thing up!!

Dont know how doin the above scans etc buggered it in the first place.

I take not longer to complete a repair than absolutely necessary. The issue may or may not be malware related, and I do not know this until the computer is clean of malware. The next step is the process would be the HJT log I requested in my last post.

I suggest you wait until the cleanup is finished so you only have to do this once...your call:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Before we start, I run SpywareGuard myself and I can tell you it does the same job as TeaTimer. There is no good reason to run them both. We will disable TeaTimer during this process as well as SG. SpywareGuard will start with a reboot, and I suggest you leave TeaTimer disabled at that point.

Perhaps TeaTimer is causing the issue?

Turn off SpywareGuard

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.

Download ResetTeaTimer.bat to the Desktop

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

OK, done, it only ran in IE not Firefox.

Ive done the above, but the 'settings' lines were not on the hijackthis log to check. So i checked the rest and fixed them.

Do you need another logfile to see if it all looks good?

And do i need to go back and change any settings, like the one that lets me see al programs that are supposed to be hidden?

Firefox still not working properly, just shut itself down for about the 5th time today, allowed me to restore session.

If i have multiple FF windows open surfing there is a dely whenever i select a function, such as flicking between browser windows, clicking on a link, anything really, small but annoying delay.

I have Firefox but rarely use it. When I do have a problem with it, I uninstall it and download it fresh. The price is right.

I can only remember changing that one setting you mentioned. I keep mine visible all of the time, but if you have anyone who uses the computer who might fool with protected files, you may want to hide them. The one problem with that is, but the time they get to the computer they know more about them than I do.

Thanks for the feedback, I see nothing in the HJT log. I have Firefox installed as a backup for IE but never use it and know little about it, so can't help you there. I suggest a forum that deals with Firefox issues.
