My wife's computer is having problems and I've been trying to help. It was infected with the Virtumonde Trojan.

In Windows XP Pro SP3, booted in Safe Mode, I ran Spybot, Updated, Immunized, checked for problems and it found several varieties of Virtumonde and DLLs.

I removed all the instances of the virii several times using Spybot, but Virtumonde apparently is very pernicious and came back again.

After reading many posts in this Forum and out of frustration, I d/l and ran ComboFix.

ComboFix ran fine and eliminated all the Virtumonde.

Thinking this was the end of the problems, re-booted into Windows and now the present problems appeared.

Windows starts up normally and allows me to login with user names. But Windows Networking and Internet access doesn't start. Also, Task Mgr starts the services and processes without any User Name. Curiously, User Names and sometimes Networking/Internet access start up after maybe 20 mins. after startup.

I'm also getting system lockup and delayed responses and then Windows Networking starts.

I ran ATF to clear out all temp and cached files, but this doesn't seem to help. Also ran WinsockxpFix.exe to fix internet winsock problems, which doesn't seem to help either.

I should have first ran all the diagnostics and posted logs and let the security experts help me, but thought I could take care of this simple infestation myself.

Any help would be appreciated. I ran Kaspersky AV and it found some virii, adware which Spybot didn't show, but AV Log file is too long to post here. HJT logs is below:

Thank you

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You must have missed this information:
Do NOT run 'fixes' before helpers have analyzed HJT/KAV scans
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=16806
ComboFix is not a general purpose cleaning tool. Please do not use this tool without supervision.

I should have first ran all the diagnostics and posted logs and let the security experts help me, but thought I could take care of this simple infestation myself.
Virtumonde is very difficult malware to remove, I do not know if I can help or not at this point. Kind of like the crime scene has been corrupted. If you wish me to see what I can do.

1) For your information, all of the 018 items in the log are the result of the Logitech Desktop Messenger which gets installed along with another Logitech program because the EULA agreement is not read. Unless you know what it is and use it, it is a resource waster and can be removed in Add Remove programs, but make sure you uninstall only what I highlite in red, this is optional:
C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\ <<< uninstall only the program in red.

2) Provide the report created when you ran combofix, it would be at C:\Combofix.txt I believe.

3) Post the results of the Kaspersky Online Scan, use as many posts as you need to get it posted.

4) C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <<< rename HJT, call it NeedVirusHelp.exe. Hackers hide their junk from HJT and after a restart we may see hidden infection.
Post a new HJT log also.

Thanks
