Any help would be appreciated.

hi achalk,
download and run this;
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop:
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
run malwarebytes first, then rescan and post a new hjt log please along with the above malwarebytes log.
Shelf - we are nearly there. In this reply I have questions about (what appears to be) the two remaining problems on the lines beginning with "PROBLEM".
Let me short circuit the full story to show you the final Malwarebytes log. If you want more details please let me know:

PROBLEM: The Malware disabled "Task Manager" from the taskbar context menu and when using CTRL-ALT-DELETE. How can I restore it (I presume this is a registry setting - which I can do).
Many thanks!

hi,
PROBLEM: WinNt32.dll is not deleted on reboot. Is it really a trojan, or is the legit. Windows OS file
it is malware.
we need to get and run another download also, hopefully removing the malware may take care of the task manager problem:
Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
as a precaution, before using combofix:
1. * Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
* Click on this link below to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
* Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net
link:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html
2. Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
* IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
* If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
3. Now double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.
Many thanks for your further help.
Below are the COMBOFIX log followed by the HIJACKTHIS log. From these this machine appears, to my untrained eye, to be clean now. I look forward to your comments.

hi achalk
thanks for the info. i dont think ive ever seen a deletion list that long.
From these this machine appear..... to be clean now.
yes. log looks ok, combofix removed a load of items. cruise around make sure popups, page redirects etc are gone. check for updates to malwarebytes and run that again also. if all looks good we will remove combofix and make anew restore point.
Many thanks shelf. It appears to be clean now. Below is the Malwarebytes log. Do you recommend a specific anti-virus solution be run on an ongoing basis? On my machine (not the infected one we have been discussing) I run McAfee and it is a lot of trouble in its own right.
Thanks!

hi achalk,
ok good. your welcome. you can remove combofix like this:
go to start>run and type in combofix /u
click ok
note: there is a space after the x and before the /
------------------------------------------
I run McAfee and it is a lot of trouble in its own right.
some other free antivirus:
AVG antivirus free edition
Avast!
AntiVir
ClamWin
Do you recommend a specific anti-virus solution be run on an ongoing basis?
on a regular basis? depends on your computing habits. do you click on all the flashy adds, click on links of files received via e-mail, IM, Chat or social sites? do you use p2p file sharing of visit porn sites?
Antivirus runs in the background and should be helping to protect you all the time. you also need one or two anti-malware apps, which you have. a occasional system scan with both AV and anti-malware wouldnt hurt but the frequency would be based on your computing habits.
System restore: the why and the how:
One of the features of Windows ME,XP and Vista is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is a good idea after malware is removed.
To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.
(winXP)
1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.
3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot
---------------------------------------
My Top Ten List:
The Short Version:
1) Keep your OS, browser and software up to date.
2) Know what you are installing to your computer. Do you trust the source?
3) Install, keep updated: antivirus and one or two anti-malware applications.
4) Dont click on adds/pop ups or offers from websites to install software.
5) Dont click on offers to "scan" your computer.
6) Dont click on links or install files you receive via E-Mail, IM, Chat Rooms or Social Sites no matter how tempting the message. Do you trust the source?
7) Set up and use limited accounts rather than administrator accounts.
8) Consider using an alternate browser and E-mail client.
9)Install and understand the limitations of a third party software firewall.
10) If your habits include warez,cracks/keygens, P2P or visting porn sites you are much more likely to encounter malicious code. Do you trust the source?
longer version in link below.
happy safe surfing out there.
