I'm desperate in the Midwest; after installing Active X to view an image two days ago, my desktop background/icons vanished, then came pop-ups, Windows Auto Update shut-down, etc. Now mostly run in Safe Mode. I couldn't afford Antivirus this year and here I am. Attached both Kaspersky which is now scanning clean (skipping files) and Hijackthis logs after educating myself through your site. If someone can advise fix, I will attempt to implement on my own. Thanks in advance!

Hi

Please uninstall Spybot now. You can reinstall it after system is clean.

So, you have outdated Norton? Please uninstall it and get Antivir here (http://www.free-av.com).

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log & a fresh hjt log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

If you have problems with Combofix usage, see here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix)

Blade,
Combofix log attached. Removed beetles eating icons and pop-ups; still not able to access Outlook Express, running slow with scan showing and Spysweeper blocking: Adware.agent.BN. Backdoor.VB.AYS, Trojan-PWS.Bancos and Application.NirCmd showing still.

Hi

ComboFix uses Nircmd.

Please disable AdWatch, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable AdWatch:

Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Disable SpySweeper's realtime protection.

Open Spysweeper and click on Options
Choose Program Options and uncheck
load at windows
startup
.
On the left click
shields
and then uncheck everything.
Uncheck
home page shield
.
Uncheck
automatically restore default without notification
.
Exit the program.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jhiowmdy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oifcogtq.ini
C:\WINDOWS\emtd.exe

Save this as
CFScript

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.
