Hi, This is all new to me so please bare with me. Been reading about sim. problems in the forum. Down loaded ComboFix and ran scan. 1st time it was done in a few min. ( but figured it was still going as I didn't get a log to work with and still had a flashing cursur.) So waited 1 hr., 1 1/2 hr., 2 hr and then left it over night...nothing changed. Later in the day ran it again & got a log. Emailed you guys and attached a copy of my log to the email a couple of days ago (oops--thats how new to this I am). Since then I have down loaded 2 SpyBot updates, also tried to down load Kaspersky scan but can't use it as I have Norton installed. It wants me to uninstall but can't do that without the disk - which I can't find. Hope you can help. Thanks

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe) to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe
Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Reply to this thread only by using the SUBMIT REPLY and do not start a NEW TOPIC

Hello,
Do this first...Important
Disable the TeaTimer, you can re enable it when were done if you wish
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
On the left hand side, Click on Tools
Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer.<--You need to do this for it to take effect
Run these two programs in order please.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) or Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe)
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a Hijackthis log.
Download ComboFix from Here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) or Here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Here are the logs; mbam, combofix, hjt. After I ran combofix a box came up that said "windows can not find 'Niromd'. When I closed the HJT log that I copied there was a box that said HJT on. This all does not seem right ...hope it is.

Please download OTMoveIt2 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt2.exe) by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop.
Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.

C:\Program Files\Uniblue\RegistryBooster 2 <-- Let me ask you about this program, did you download and install it ???? You should never run any type of Registry Cleaners unless your a windows expert because if you let it remove the wrong entry it can disable your system. You can uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
The rest of your log looks fine :bigthumb: To answer your question , you had some misc malware installed but nothing very serious.
You have Norton Anti Virus installed, I am not following what you want to do, you can run the free online virus scanner from Kaspersky with Norton installed but if you want to install the entire Kaspersky Anti Virus Program you need to uninstall Norton first because you should never have more than one Anti Virus program installed, more than one is overkill and will actually slow down your system. You do not need the disk to uninstall Norton.
Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
It should have an icon next to it:

Select it and click Remove.
Reboot your system.
Then go to the Sun Microsystems (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) and install the update
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 <--This is what you need to download and install.
If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Took the old Java out with the exception of Java 2 because the icon was a computer with a disk. After I did that the update came imediately to my task bar> desk top> install.:D:

Hey, my previous post didn't show. I'll repete.
The Blue down load was an error -you weren't supose to see that-( you never miss a wrinkle) I was trying to down load MalwareBite (I think). I deleted the Blue 2 program from the desk top, know I'm not supose to do that but couldn't find it in programs list to un-install. Delete ComboFix, MoveIt, HJT, ATF, etc.?
The bit about Norton, I thought I was trying to down load the free version of the Kasperski scan, to be prepared for the Forum. Then the alert came that I can not have the Kasperski with Norton. However, this is a moot point since you directed me in a way that the Kasperski was not needed. I also have not paid for Norton Updates because I like My SpyBot better.
Just a little aside, when I Open my SpyBot program, go to help> home, it does not want to connect, there is no address in the bar. Do I have to down load it again?
One last; my son went on a site to learn how to erase the desk top background. Now it is white. I don't know what he did but I have only tried to change it by going to control panel> desk top & that didn't work. Any ideas besides grounding him?;)

Don't confuse Anti Virus with Anti Spyware, there two different animals and you need them both. Keep your Norton updated, its important. You should only have one Anti Virus program but you can have a few AS with no problems.

Time for some housekeeping
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will:
Delete the following:
ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
VundoFix backups, if present
The C:\Deckard folder, if present
The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
Reset the clock settings.
Hide file extensions, if required.
Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
Reset System Restore.
AHHH, kids and computers, sometimes its a volatile mix, most kids think there indestructible and can do no wrong, why would you want to remove the desktop background anyway?
Right click on your desktop and click on Properties and under the desktop tab select another wallpaper and see if that fixes it. I have no idea what he downloaded and has done. If that does not work than let me know and I can link you to some windows support sites that deal with windows issues as we only do malware removal in this one.
How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

My child denies any involvement (contrary to what is listed in Favorites).
Learned something new about the anti virus/ anti spyware difference.Never too old...
I did the ComboFix /u run but before I could check anything the whole thing deleted. Guess that's O.K.?
I found that there are a couple of program that the SpyBot did not full load something to the effect, Trojan error.sbikeeps telling me to see log??? What log how to fix?( bet you thought you were done with me...Almost :red:)

Open up Spybot Search and Destroy and click on Help> About and make sure you have version 1.5.2, if your using the older version 1.4 than uninstall it via the ADD Remove programs in the Control Panel and down load and install the latest version and lets see if that clears it up.

Could be a bad monitor or video card, swap out the monitor for a known good one and see if it works, if still no go it may be a bad video card. Lots of things it could be, maybe even the power supply failing. Let me know how you make out and if your still having problems I can link you to some windows support sites that would be better able to run you through some checks,

It is a lap top so don't think I can swipe out the monitor(?) The power source.. the middle light ( indicating power) shows green. I do need to replace the battery so keep the power plugged in when I am going to use it. Signed up for one of those, "send in the battery & have it re- charged" places (trying to keep the planet green), before this all happened. Will keep you posted.

MY smart kid figured out how to get it back up & running. Said it was the monitor basically. He had to press the top together as some how it was not fastened.
