Ive ran my anti-virus (Avast) a couple times since getting this. First time said i had a trojan. Ran it second time in safe mode and said i was clean. But Ive been getting pop ups constantly even when im not on IE or Mozilla (yes im getting them on Mozilla too). Also my task manager was disabled and my automatic windows updates are deactivated. i got the task manager fixed but i cant enable the updates. When I go to services to turn it on it goes right back to being deactivated. When i run Spybot it says i have Virtumonde and it wont get rid of it permanently. On restarting it comes right back. Ive looked at other posts and see that combofix and hijack this logs are required so ive got those and will post them here. Please help this virus is taking away my sleep.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You missed some instructions at the top of this forum.
Do NOT run 'fixes' before helpers have analyzed HJT/KAV scans
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=16806
ComboFix is not a general purpose cleaning tool. Please do not use this tool without supervision.

If you still want help, I will see what I can do, but first, read the directions and then post the correct HJT log.

Download Trend Micro Hijack This™
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/hijackthis/HJTInstall.exe
Doubleclick the HJTInstall.exe to start it.
By default it will install HijackThis in the Program Files\Trendmicro folder and create a desktop shortcut.
HijackThis will open after install. Press the Scan button below.
This will start the scan and open a log.
Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Do not post the Kaspersky Online Scan, I will request it when I need it.

Thanks

redhead

Thank you so much for replying! I'm about ready to toss my laptop into the street. Ive tried so many different programs and removal tools in and out of safe mode and nothing is working so far. Very sorry for jumping the gun. I just saw what other folks were doing in other threads and thought i was saving time. I will now do ONLY as you say. :) Here is a new hijack report as you request. Thank you so much again for your help.

Thanks for returning the correct HJT log, please read and follow the directions carefully.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vdrdpup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\vdrdpup.dll,RegisterVirtualChannel
I am not sure about this one, it may have to do with:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/vdrdpup/
If you don't know it, scan it with: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and post the results. The file to scan in red.

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Windows Defender
Click on "Tools"
Click on "General Settings"
Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
Click "Save"
Make sure to turn your protection back on when you finish.

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Save this as CFScript

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/CFScript.gif

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06DF596B-3170-4F07-BE10-86E31456BC56} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnOfGxv.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

6) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart and post the combofix log and new HJT log and some feedback from you. How is the computer running?

Thanks

I want to say thanks again. You guys are great to volunteer your time to help. This is turning into a nightmare. I followed your directions. I scanned that file and it came up with nothing. I copied the results and ill post it below. I put the CFScript in Combofix and it ran fine and rebooted and the text file came up and then my computer crashed. A blue screen came up that said Windows was shut down to prevent serious damage to your computer. Something about a physical memory dump and that if it persists to contact my administrator. I had to turn my computer off and reboot and it took FOREVER and when it came back up there was an error log that read as such:
Files sent with error message
C:\DOCUME~1\SHERRI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5ab0.dir00\Mini051808-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\SHERRI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5ab0.dir00\sysdata.xml

BCP4: 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product 256_1

When i opened Hijack this to fix those files you listed, none of them were there. There was one that was similar to O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [a8389017] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bikufpcd.dll",b but it had a different .dll at the end. I went ahead and fixed it. I ran Atf cleaner and rebooted and it took FOREVER again. When I came back here the pop ups came right back as soon as i got online so im sure the problem is still there. Windows automatic updates still wont turn on. I will now post the file scan, combofix, and latest hijackthis. I hope you see something, this is really making me crazy. Thanks again.

Thanks for returning the information and the feedback.

I looked at a dozen or so topics at other forums and about half the helpers remove that file, BUT miekiemoes whom I trust leaves it alone as will we.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic47340.html

As far as the slow boot, we did clean the Prefetch folder with ATF-Cleaner and you can expect a few slow boots until Windows repopulates the folder:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Gaining-Speed-Empty-Prefetch-XP.html

I hope you see something, this is really making me crazy.
If it's making you crazy, think what it is doing to me, I am helping probably 25 people at once.

Here is what I see in this new HJT log, look with me:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 15:49, on 2008-05-18

O23 - Service: PsExec (PSEXESVC) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\PSEXESVC.EXE (file missing) <<< that file is NOT missing, that's a glitch in HJT

Now look in this HJT log:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 10:59:12 AM, on 5/18/2008
Look at all of the 023 nt services.

Now the point I must make is that this item was not there at: 10:59:12 AM, on 5/18/2008
at it is there at: 15:49, on 2008-05-18

Unless you are turning services on and off, this is a new infection? Here is what Google says it is:
http://spywarefiles.prevx.com/RRADJI3985/PSEXESVC.EXE.html
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PSEXESVC.EXE+&btnG=Search

If you wish to scan it before you remove it, use the same scanner.

Disable the Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to PsExec and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (PSEXESVC) and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt

Ok i deleted the PSEXESVC you pointed out. It must have been an infection. I dont change services. I wouldnt know how to do that unless instructed. I ran the Anti Malware and quite a few infected files. It said it couldnt delete 2 registry files. But that they would be deleted on restarting. So it restarted my computer and i ran a hijack this log and i will now post the logs for you. Thanks alot.

Thanks for the feedback, you had a very infected computer here:sad: We have more junk to remove from the HJT log and I need to have a look at a Kaspersky Online Scan, but we have this issue to resolve first.

I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

I installed the recovery console. My Windows version is XP Media Center SP2. That option wasnt there at the website, I assumed that XP Home SP2 is basically what I have. If I made a mistake please let me know. Im not sure I fully understand recovery console. If we use that, am I going to lose everything on my computer? Just wanted to know. Anyway here is the CF-RC.txt log, and as always thanks for your guidance.

WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe

No, we will not be using Recovery Console today, here is information about the tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Recovery+Console&btnG=Google+Search
Hopefully you will never need it, but if you do you have it now.

Since we removed a load of malware, you should be able to run this scan now, follow the directions:

1) Remove combofix and the C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\ folder before you scan.

2) Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
* Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
* Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
* Standard
* Scan Options:
* Scan Archives
* Scan Mail Bases
* Click OK
* Now under select a target to scan:
* Select My Computer
* This will program will start and scan your system.
* The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
* Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
* Now click on the Save as Text button:
* Save the file to your desktop.

Then post it here.

Thanks

Ugh. Well i followed the above instructions. But it seems something is still lurking. I ran a search and Destroy with anticipation from your last post that it was gone. It came back with one infection labeled Virtumonde.dll (SBI $7442D4BC) Library C:\WINDOWS\system32\awTMfgGX.dll

I havent had search and destroy delete it yet. It seems when you delete it, theres something in there that just creates another one. I remember on an earlier post you said we needed to clean some stuff from my last hijack this log. Do we still need to do that? If so should I go ahead and delete this file s&d found and run another hijack this? Thanks. You got me excited for a minute there :(

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awTMfgGX.dll

according to MBAM, that junk was deleted on reboot:
Registry Data Items Infected from the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\Authentication Packages (Trojan.Vundo) -> Data: c:\windows\system32\awtmfggx -> Delete on reboot.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Authentication Packages (Trojan.Vundo) -> Data: c:\windows\system32\awtmfggx -> Delete on reboot.

and the same with the file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\awTMfgGX.dll (Trojan.Vundo) -> Delete on reboot.

Go ahead and remove it with Spybot S&D...make sure the program is totally up to date and fully immunized. Then run your resident Antivirus program to see what it finds. You might even want to run MBAM again to make sure it is clean. Make sure you write down any information Spybot gives you in case you need to post in the Spybot forum for resolution. Let me know how it turns out, I will keep your topic open until the issue is resolved.

Thanks...Phil:cowboy:
